Lesson Segment - include skill
cues where appropriate
3 vs. 2 LUG
Activities/Task Applications - include extensions or simplifications if
appropriate and instructions for drills, activity organization, LUG rules, etc.
After skill/offense/defense review students will begin playing a basketball
LUG of 3 vs. 2. There will be 3 students on offense and 2 students on defense,
this will allow for the offense to be open but still allow the defense to have a
chance at making a good defensive attack. Each rotation will last for 1
offensive point or 1 offensive attempt at a point. The student who attempts to
make the shot on offense will continue to stay on offense, but will now be
playing with the 2 students who were originally playing defense. The students
on offense who did not attempt the shot will rotate regularly to the sideline. If
a student stays on offense for more than 4 turns they will be asked to take a
break and let someone else have a turn. General rotation will be offense goes
to sideline, defense goes to offense, and sideline goes to defense.
8 Minutes
5 vs. 4 LUG
After 5 minutes of 3 vs. 2 basketball LUG the students will now work on a 5
vs. 4 LUG. There will be 5 students on offense and 4 students on defense.
There will be no need for a rotation because there should be 9 students in class
but if a student does not show up a teaching partner will step in as a teammate,
teaching partners should remember to not shoot that ball. After 2 minutes
roles will switch and the players who were originally on offense will now be
on defense and the players who were on defense will now be on offense.
Teacher can decide which player who was originally on offense will stay on
offense for the second round of this LUG.
12 Minutes
Gameplay
After the students have finished their LUGs they will finally get into an actual
basketball game. It will be 5 vs. 5, the 5th player will be a teaching partner.
Teaching partners should remember that they are not allowed to shoot during
the game. Offense and defense will be allowed to score points, offense can
make points by making a basket (2 points), hitting the back board (1point, and
good passing (1 point). Defense can get points by stealing a pass (2 points), or
by deflecting/interfering with a pass (1 point). The game will not work as a
regular basketball game where after each point is scored possession changes
instead we will just play 2 minute sections where offense stays on offense and
defense stays on defense no matter the amount of points made. If teachers feel
that the teams are not put together well they may make changes to the teams
during offense/defense switches.

Pacer Test
Students will run the fitness Pacer test on their own without a running buddy
but they will have a partner on the side keeping track of how many “laps” they
have completed. They will start on the basketball baseline and run to the
opposite foul line extended. They will run on the buzz and will need to run as
many “laps” as they can before giving up. If the receive two errors they will
then have to stop and take a walking lap for cool down. If the student is not

running the pacer a that time they will be sitting on the sideline with a piece of
paper marking whether or not their running partner made it to each baseline
before the buzzer beeped. If the student does not make it to the baseline before
the buzzer that will be considered an error.
