The Melting World: A Journey Across America’s Vanishing Glaciers:
a reading and book signing with Christopher White
at the Montana House June 28st, 2014
The Montana House is pleased to host another Look, Listen & Learn event with a presentation by
Christopher White, author of “The Melting World.” He will talk about and read selections from his
recently published book, and also sign copies. His talk will begin at 7 pm at the Montana House in
Apgar Village inside Glacier National Park.
In “The Melting World” White tells of his tracking of two ecologists, Dan Fagre and Clint
Muhlfeld, and their U.S. Geological Survey team into the high peaks as they take the pulse of
Glacier National Park’s glaciers, snowfields, and the watersheds below. Employing sophisticated
technology, they forecast the future. The verdict: The remaining ice may vanish in less than a
decade.
The New York Times Book Review (1/12/14) wrote: “[In THE MELTING WORLD. a] moving story
emerges. It’s a fascinating outdoor adventure, an illuminating look into the science of a melting
mountain—and a fresh warning that the warming world is already here.”
White is a science writer and journalist, specializing in narrative nonfiction. He has written four
books, including “The Melting World: A Journey Across America’s Vanishing Glaciers.” He has
written for publications ranging from Audubon to The Baltimore Sun and National Geographic.
Formerly, he worked on fisheries and endangered species issues for the Chesapeake Bay
Foundation. He has a degree in biology from Princeton University and an appetite for
mountaineering, sailing, and diving. Chris lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The presentation at the Montana House will begin at 7 pm with time for questions and a reception to
follow. The event is open to the public without charge, but seating is limited, so reservations are
needed. Please call (406) 888-5393 or email: 1960mthouse@qwestoffice.net for additional information
and to reserve your seat.
Hans and Toni Jungster established the Montana House Regional Craft Shop in 1960 in Apgar Village,
just inside Glacier National Park. Their daughter Monica and staff continue to carry on their mission: to
celebrate and promote the creativity of Montanan and Native American artists and craftsmen for our
mutual benefit. The Montana House has been a long time avid supporter of Glacier National Park. The
shop is open all year.
