CLASS TITLE: ARCHAEOLOGIST I
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is professional work conducting archaeological research, analysis and interpretation.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Prepares scientific reports including maps and illustrations describing surveys and excavations.
Conducts archaeological surface surveys of the state highway rights-of-way, state owned lands
or areas of proposed construction.
Collects, sorts, describes and photographs archaeological materials.
Analyzes materials recovered from bureau salvage and excavation projects.
Analyzes known archaeological sites for geographical, environmental and cultural descriptions
of remains.
Manages the operations and functions of the Florida master site file including data storage,
manipulation and retrieval.
Conducts archaeological projects and salvage and exploration contracts carried out by others.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of archaeological theory and techniques.
Knowledge of the characteristics of various archaeological artifacts.
Knowledge of report writing techniques.
Skill in using archaeological excavation equipment.
Ability to conduct independent research and analyze data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in anthropology or
archaeology and one year of archaeological research experience; or
A master's degree from an accredited college or university in anthropology or archaeology.
