I am 45 years young, I have three children who attend this school and are very happy and thrive in all aspects of their education. I have lived in Blackpool for 25 years and my career has changed direction. I was a police special constable based at Bonny Street Police Station with a view to being a regular Police Officer, however I became interested in prevention rather than cure so worked at an establishment called ‘Fylde Farm’. I worked with young people in crisis from all ethnic backgrounds with a variety of educational, physical and emotional needs. I also worked in the secure facility which were testing times yet also very rewarding. I found the task of being an effective influence to the young people very easy overall and remained at Fylde Farm until its closure in 2004. I believe I would be an asset to the school and bring a different aspect to the board as my background gives me knowledge and experience in being able to make opinions and support other people’s viewpoints. I currently work for Blackpool Council and have done for 7 years now and I would consider it a privilege to be considered to become a Governor. 2) DESIREE LANGAN I’m a mum of three. My eldest has severe learning difficulties and attends a special needs school. My daughter attends Langdale and my youngest is set to start Nursery here next year. The most important thing being a parent is the health, safety and wellbeing of our children, regardless what their abilities are. At the forefront of that is their education and by choosing Langdale for our children, we have all shown that we have that in common; we want the best for them. I am happy to volunteer my services as a School Governor and work on behalf of all our children to ensure that they continue getting the care, support and education they all deserve. Having a child with special needs has exposed me to local council and authorities and in some cases and in some cases fighting for what he is entitled to, I am his voice in this world. Our children need a voice and I am happy to do that for them on the School Board of Governors at Langdale Free School. I have a background in accounting so my strong point is finance and in a climate where budgets are tight, an understanding of numbers is a must. 3) JENNI RHODES I would like to be elected to the role of Parent Governor at Langdale Free School. In my current role as a Teaching Assistant and being a parent of a child in class 6, I feel I would have the opportunity to communicate with parents and put their views across to the Governors regarding school matters whilst maintaining the family ethos within the school. Education plays a major part in the lives of all our children – rightly so; it gives them the tools to work towards their ultimate goals and to achieve their full potential. I care deeply about the education of my children (including my daughter who attends a local high school) and about the quality of the school they attend. As a Teaching Assistant at the school I am very concerned that the school maintain the family environment in which each child is valued and develops self-esteem. The teachers and staff do their best to maximise each child’s potential, helping them individually to enjoy learning in all subjects and at the appropriate levels. As a Parent Governor I would offer commitment, enthusiasm and determination to carry on the good work already being practised at the school …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Please state the name of the candidate you wish to vote for and return to school in the envelope provided: ……………………………………………………………………………………………
