ISB was founded 11 years ago and is situated in the heart of the historical center of Bologna. At present ISB
shares a campus with a private Italian school the Collegio San Luigi, which is one of the oldest private schools in
Bologna. Bologna has a long history as one of Italy’s most forward thinking cities. Bologna is also known as “la
dotto” (the learned one) because of the University of Bologna, one of the oldest universities in continuous
existence in the world. The location of an IB school in such an environment gives the school a unique outlook.
Therefore one of the school’s goals is to demonstrate new ideas, techniques, practices and systems to other
schools in Italy and around the world. ISB currently has an enrollment of 205, representing over 19
nationalities, with over 35 dedicated faculty and administration. ISB is an IB World School and as such offers
the PYP, MYP in addition to the Diploma programme from August 2015. ISB is accredited by the Council of

The Position.
ISB seeks a science teacher to join a new and developing department. Initially the position requires successful
experience in teaching Chemistry to IB Diploma or equivalent level and the ability to develop the necessary
curriculum for that level of science. He or she will understand the importance of being part of a department team
and the faculty team as a whole. He or she will also be able to show evidence of self-directed professional
development through professional membership, publications or professional collaborations. An understanding of
how to develop students whose first language is not English will be important. In addition to Chemistry the
successful candidate will be able to teach middle years mathematics. This is an opportunity to make a significant
contribution to the development of a relatively new secondary school and a successful and growing department.
Requirements










Hold an EU passport
Appropriate degree and teaching certification
Outstanding classroom results and experience with external exam preparation
Minimum of three years science teaching experience
Demonstrated understanding of current research in teaching and learning
Ability to write and develop the Chemistry curriculum
Ability to work as a team member within a department and in an interdisciplinary team
Ability to develop students in science where English is an additional language
Commitment to the IB standards and practices
Superior communication skills
Preferred

Experience in an international or multicultural school

