35 per week: 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday

Coram, the UK’s first children’s charity, has been helping vulnerable children for 275 years, and

of activities to raise funds and ensure many more people get to hear about the lasting
difference we make for children and young people. Our profile has never been higher and we
are keen to maintain, and build on, our progress through creative and engaging media activity
off and online.
Purpose of Role:
To provide a range of PR and communications support and administrative duties to help raise
awareness of the work of the Coram charity group.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Press Office support

Maintain a ‘library’ of media resources, including cataloguing media coverage through an
online database, news releases and publications to ensure information is up to date, easy
to find

Distribute media releases to targeted media contacts, using an electronic database

Create regular media coverage reports/presentations and circulate for use by staff across
the organisation

Assist with media enquiries, including interview, photography and filming requests

Maintain and update the charity’s case studies database.

Assist with the sourcing and appropriate use of images for media, social media and
internal communication

Provide general administrative support, including completing purchases orders and
invoices

Assist in proofing documents and help to ensure consistent use of key messaging and
branding
Website and social media

Support in the preparation of generic ‘tweets’ on relevant topics

Assist with updatingrelevant areas of the website where needed
Internal communications

Assist with the production and distribution of the staff newsletterusing ecommunications software

Support the communications elements of Coram’s intranet.
Any other duties as required within competence.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Degree level or equivalent (E)

Recognised qualification in marketing, journalism, PR or media (D)

Excellent writing, editing and proof reading skills, with the ability to write concise and
engaging copy in a range of styles and for a variety of audiences. (E)

Relevant experience in, or knowledge of, a broad range of communications activities
including PR, social media and marketing (E)

Excellent spelling and grammar with very strong attention to detail (E)

Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work to deadlines (E)

Good research and analytical skills (E)

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of internal
and external stakeholders (E)

Experience of Content Management Systems and familiarity with writing for websites and
social media (D)

Strong competence in IT systems including Microsoft Office (E) and knowledge of databases
(e.g. Cision) an advantage (basic training available) (D)

Interest in working in the voluntary sector and in the children and families sector. (D)

