House Duty Volunteers
At Lydia’s House, there’s no typical day
Between guests and volunteers and donors and strangers stopping by, those who are willing to take on house
duty are taking on a lot! Here are a few things you can expect:
Regular Duties
1.
Answer the door. Residents are allowed to host guests on the first floor or in the yard during certain hours
(see resident handbook policy). Other volunteers who are expected should be able to see themselves in.
2.
Answer the duty phone. If it is an intake call ask them to call back and leave a message.
3.
Make sure dinner happens if the dinner volunteer cancels. Soup/salad/sandwiches are fine!
4.
Call everyone into dinner. Lead the blessing prayer or ask someone else to do it if you prefer.
5.
Make sure dinner cleanup assignments are delegated.
6.
Accept pre-arranged donations or food donations. Give the address for Salvation Army for clothes or
home goods.
7.
Sort the mail when it arrives.
8.
Make sure the door is locked at 9. Note if anyone missed curfew. Give reminders after quiet hours if
necessary.
9.
Log the happenings of the day in the logbook in the office. Be sure to report grace-filled moments or
areas of concern.
