College of Health and Human Development and the United States Department of Education’s CAMINO: Charting Access for Hispanics Majoring In Needed Careers and Occupations in Healthcare 2015-2016 HHD / CAMINO Research Assistant RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITION DETAILS Purpose The purpose of the CAMINO Research Assistant positions is to provide valuable paid research opportunities to graduate students in the following programs under the College of Health and Human Development: Communication Disorders, Environmental and Occupational Health, Gerontology, Health Administration, Kinesiology, Lactation, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, and Public Health. See below for details on selection criteria and requirements. In order to address CAMINO’s larger goal of supporting success of Hispanic graduate students in allied health disciplines (ultimately increasing Hispanic participation in allied health professions), priority will be given to low-income and/or first-generation status students, as well as those who are engaged in research with Latino populations. Job Requirements and Pay Research Assistants will assist a current faculty member engaged in research. Applicants must identify their chosen faculty member and receive permission to work with them prior to applying. This position pays $15.00 per hour, maximum of 10 hours of work per week, over 15 weeks each semester. Your faculty advisor will work with you to determine a mutually agreeable schedule to accomplish your research assistant duties. These are paid positions and will not be considered as internship opportunities. Number of Positions Available A total of nine (9) Research Assistant positions are available—meaning there is one available Research Assistant position for EACH of the following programs: Communication Disorders, Environmental and Occupational Health, Gerontology, Health Administration, Kinesiology, Lactation, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, Public Health. Funding Funding for these positions is made possible by CAMINO: Charting Access for Hispanics Majoring In Needed Careers and Occupations in Healthcare, a United States Department of Education’s Promoting Post-Baccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPOHA) Program. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Graduate students in good academic standing who anticipate being at CSUN for at least 1 year are highly encouraged to apply. Applicants should be mature, responsible, accountable, dependable, a team player, and have strong communication skills.
