St. James Major Catholic School, ALCDSB 2015-2016 School Council Meeting Agenda Meeting Minutes Monday September 21, 2015, 5:30-6:30pm 1. 2. Attendance: Principal Kevin Douglas, Vice Principal Lori Bryden, Teacher Rep. Angela Stuper, Jen Ross, Scott Ross, Trustee Wendy Procter, Mike Procter, Kim Bates, Rebecca Peters, Katie MacDonald, Francis Wooby, Maria Lockhart Prayer & Welcome- V.P. Bryden 3. Election of New School Council- Chairperson- Jen Ross, Treasurer- Kim Bates, Secretary- Maria Lockhart, Community Representative- Mike Procter 4. Approval of Previous Minutes- Approved- no questions/ changes 5. Vice-Principal’s Report (L. Bryden)- Up and Coming- Terry Fox Walk, Open House, Dental Screening, the Associate Director and Peggy Lunn will visit to discuss Learning Commons, staff will participate in Restorative Practice workshop, Mr. Reilly will work with each class using the “Responsible Citizen” theme, Youth Worker, Mrs. Johnson-Young will visit one day a week with “Fun Friends” JK- Grade 1, “Roots of Empathy” Grades 2-4, Constable Sandhu will visit with grades 5-8 for an 8 week course, School Mass is Oct. 22nd, 11am. Terry Fox fundraiser was successful, school enrollment is 45 students. 6. Financial Report (K. Bates)- Bank account balances; Nevada- $1195.70, Parent Involvement Grant- $674.22, Parent Council- $1612.81, School Account- $1308.50 7. Community Report (M. Proctor) - Community news contact is Jeff Green 613-279-3150. In previous years Mike has visited the school to make pizza, nature walks and historical re-enactments. Currently there is an open mic event every Saturday to raise funds for an ice rink. The Festival of Trees contact is Rose Marie Bowick. There is a potential school singing/ visit at the Drop In Lunch in Sharbot Lake. 8. Chair Report (J. Ross) - Thank you to everyone for attending. The Cookie Exchange will be co-ordinated by Jen and done before Christmas with approximately 27 school families participating. Kim Bates will register our School Council for the Campbell’s Soup/ Goldfish Crackers bar code program. If there is a field trip to the Perth Pool planned, the date should be booked early. The year book needs to be discussed. SJM CWL supports the faith based activities, for example, supplying the cake for Confirmation. A date needs to be confirmed for the Knights of Columbus Christmas Dinner. A calendar of Parent Council meetings and events should be created. 9. Fundraising/Events- J. Ross suggested a Mom to Mom sale in October to be held in SJM Church Hall and a fish fry during Lent. 10. Meeting Dates for 2015-2016- The requirement is four meetings per school year. Council decided on Mondays at 5:30pm with food on the following dates: Nov. 2, Jan. 11, Mar. 7 and May 2. Rebecca Peters volunteered to bring food to the Nov. 2nd meeting.
