Omnibus is an Honors History, English, and Theology course. Students who complete this course will receive 2 ½ credits: one in Medieval History I, one in Doctrine and Theology II, and one in Medieval and Reformational Literature I. Taught through a biblical worldview, this course takes students on a path through the Great Books and introduces history facts and events using Western Civilization by Jackson Spielvogel. Students will focus on why things happened and the reason behind the events, while acquire the ability to take what they’ve learned and form their own thoughts and opinions. In class, students will participate in several discussions from various perspectives, such as, text, our culture, the Bible, and the student. This course includes composition, grammar, and vocabulary skills practice. During the first semester, students will continue to develop writing confidence using the nine IEW units to refine their ability to write a standard five-paragraph composition. Topics will include but not be restricted to, operations with integers, rules of multiplicative identity and additive identity, equation solving, exponential function relations, quadratic function relations and their graphs, Cartesian graphing, polynomial relations and functions, radicals and their properties as well as some work with geometric properties as a background for use in Algebra II. Course materials: Saxon Algebra I Homeschool Kit, Third Edition Parent Role: Guide for Independent Study Course Prerequisites: Saxon Algebra 1⁄2 or Equivalent Honors Biology This course meets for 32 weeks on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday Cost $425 per semester High school credit: 1 science credit RSC101: Fall Semester RSC102: Spring Semester This is a college prep course that teaches biology from a biblical perspective while providing detail instructions to the methods and concepts of general biology. Strongly emphasizing the vocabulary of biology, it provides the student with a strong background in the scientific method, the five-kingdom classification scheme, cellular biology, dissection, ecosystems and much more. Students will participate in weekly laboratory experiments. Course materials: Apologia Exploring Creation with Biology Parent Role: Guide for Independent Study Course Prerequisites: NONE Latin This course meets for 32 weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays Cost $300 per semester High school credit: 1 foreign language credit RFL101: Fall Semester RFL102: Spring Semester This course will give a comprehensive introduction to Latin grammar. Student will obtain a sound foundation of Latin vocabulary; an introductory grasp of Latin grammar and syntax; facility in Latin pronunciation; an expanded English vocabulary, by understanding etymology of Latin derivatives; and a reinforced grasp of English grammar through the study of Latin grammar. Parent Role: Guide for Independent Study Course Prerequisites: NONE Logic I This course meets for 32 weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays Cost $300 per semester High school credit: 1 elective credit RLG101: Fall Semester RLG102: Spring Semester This course establishes the rudiments of formal logic—the construction and detection of valid syllogism and formal and informal fallacies. Course materials: Traditional Logic I (Fall) Student will explore four kinds of logical statements, the four ways propositions can be opposed, the three ways in which they can be equivalent, and the seven rules for the validity of syllogisms. Course materials: Traditional Logic II (Spring) This text covers the four figures of the traditional syllogism, the three forms of rhetorical arguments (called enthymemes), the three kinds of hypothetical syllogisms, the four kinds of complex syllogisms, as well as relational arguments.
