GREATER MANCHESTER JOINS WORLD’S LARGEST COMPANIES AND CITIES BY
REPORTING CLIMATE CHANGE DATA
Manchester City Council, on behalf of Greater Manchester, has re-submitted data and narrative drawn from the GM Climate Change Strategy and Implementation Plan to the
Carbon Disclosure Project's Cities Initiative (CDP). Reporting emissions to the Carbon
Disclosure Project's Cities Initiative, alongside a statement of intended action on climate change, is a pre-requisite to entry to the international C40 Cities: Climate Leadership Group.
PRESS RELEASE
Manchester has joined the world’s largest cities and corporations in reporting its climate change data and strategies to CDP .
Reporting on climate change is considered best practice in reducing emissions and adapting to a changing climate.
“Cities that measure and report on climate change issues will be best placed to capitalize on the opportunities from managing them,” says Paul Dickinson, executive chairman of CDP,
“By disclosing information on an annual basis, these cities are committing to transparent climate action that others can emulate.”
CDP, an independent, not-for-profit organization, is the only global environmental reporting platform. Over 4,100 corporations, including 81% of the world’s largest 500, disclosed vital climate change and energy-use information through CDP in 2012. Last year, 73 major cities , including the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group , also utilized CDP to communicate their greenhouse gas emissions, risks and opportunities and strategies for dealing with climate change.
Full analysis of the climate actions and trends of cities taking part in CDP’s cities program this year will be released in June. The full text of Manchester’s response, as well as thousands of other responses, is available for free on the CDP website at www.cdp.net
