JOB SUMMARY
As a CATHLAB NURSE: A Cathlab Nurse is central to the efficient running of a cardiac
catheterization laboratory which requires scientific knowledge (experience) dynamism and
above all caring and sympathetic attitude of nurse. They work as a circulating, scrubbing and
recovery room nurse.
As a SHIFT INCHARGE NURSE in CATHLAB: An INCHARGE nurse who oversee the general
running of the lab and allocate duties to team members for patient care and supervision of
cathlab nurse, management of emergency situations like cardiac arrest. They are responsible for
the safety keeping of narcotics as well as controlled drugs. They co-ordinate with medical,
radiography and cardiac tech staff to ensure smooth running of lab. They co-ordinate with other
departments for the smooth movements of the patients both incoming and outgoing.

 It is one of the well reputed Cardiac Hospital in Saudi Arabia with a bed capacity of 72.
In CATHLAB:
 Its cardiac catheterization unit consists of 2 labs (1 biplane and single plane) and 3
bedded recovery room, and are capable of providing all type of adult and pediatric
diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
As a SHIFT-INCHARGE:
:
 Oversee the general running of the lab and allocate duties to team members as
appropriate for their level and assign breaks.
 Consult with the doctor and prepare the patient's list for the day.
 Responsible for the safety keeping of narcotics as well as controlled drugs.
 Liaise with medical, radiography and cardiac tech staff to ensure smoothrunning of the
lab.
 Ensure the emergency equipments and drugs have been checked andready for use.
 Ensure stocking up is attended throughout the day and at the end of the list.
 Ensure the cleanliness of the department and aseptic techniques is following in all
procedures.
 Co-ordinate with other departments for the smooth flow of patients.
 Recognize emergencies and takes appropriate action.
 Initiate and participate in dealing with medical emergencies including cardiac
resuscitation.
 Consult with the doctor before calling each patient.
 Ensure the list is fully updated all the times and Supervisor is informed of any problems
or issues arising.
 Orientation of new staff.
 Arrange for anesthesia and/or surgeon and/or echo to be available as needed.
 Ensure high-cost forms are completed at the end of the day.
 Ensure the patient logbook is correctly completed at the end of the day.
As a STAFF NURSE:
 Receive the patient (in cathlab) and check for the information and correct documentation
and inform any abnormalities to cardiologist.
 Setup relevant trays and assure necessary equipments are available and ready and scrub
up under strict aseptic techniques and assist the cardiologistwith invasive procedures as
needed.
 Monitoring for any pressure variations or arrhythmias and immediately inform the
cardiologist.
 Sheath removal, care of incision site and close monitoring
of patient in post-cath period.
 Injection of contrast media and other drugs into coronaries as directed by cardiologist.
 Giving patient post-cath instructions and handing over patient toward/CCU/OR with
relevant documents and information.
 Ensure lab and equipments are cleaned and disinfectant and are ready to be used for next
patient.
 Send items for re-sterilization to CSSD after cleaning.
 Ensure patient file (including report) is completed by relevant staff.
(Including cardiologist) before patient leave the lab.
 Make sure the crush trolley is always fully stocked with drugs and equipments are fully
functional.
 Ensure the lab is fully equipped for procedure and provide sterile equipments to the
trolley as per nee of scrub nurse and interventionist.
 Document the patient's observations including vital signs, patient condition and
procedure details as needed.
 Administer pre medications, thrombolytic and other emergency medicines as directed by
interventionist.
 Assist in the resuscitative procedure. Eg.Cardiac arrest.
 Responsible of doing on call and late duties.
