Accountable for working with external stakeholders and securing routes to young people where the focus on direct delivery is in locations and with groups where there is evidence that there is a crisis caused by the harmful effects of a first aid emergency.. Focused on developing learner understanding, ability to cope and be able to respond to a first aid emergency related to the harmful effects of drug and alcohol misuse. Context The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. Youth education focuses on building individual and community resilience, reducing the risk of vulnerability, and developing ability, confidence and a willingness to act. As well as the responsibility for increasing reach through social media and online resources and positioning. Education project manager Our educational aim is to develop young people’s understanding of crises and how people are affected, in ways appropriate to their age and stage of development; help them to build the skills to cope with crisis affecting themselves and their local community and equip them to respond to crisis affecting others. The three types of crisis that our education will focus on are: > Crisis caused by the harmful effects of an emergency eg. Flooding, severe weather and first aid emergencies > Crisis caused by the harmful effects of stigmatising behaviour eg. Refugees and migration and HIV and AIDS > Crisis caused by the harmful effects of conflict eg International Humanitarian Law Overall purpose of the role To develop and deliver a peer education youth resilience project enabling young people to understand, cope with and respond to a first aid crisis related to the harmful effects of drug and alcohol misuse. To be responsible for delivering and evaluating youth education with children and young people, working in partnership with other Red Cross department colleagues and external stakeholders. To train a minimum of 66 peer educators from 11 partner organisations and support them to cascade the training to a further 525 young people. To support the accreditation of 66 peer educators through a national accreditation provider. To meet the reporting requirements of the project funders. Main responsibilities and duties > Work with the youth education manager to plan, develop and deliver the peer education project in higher risk locations in Northern Scotland. > To meet the targets and reporting requirements of the project funders. > To attend other local Area meetings if required, such as Area management meetings, as directed by the youth education manager. > Work with other colleagues in the Area/s such as the people and learning team, where relevant to the role. > Work with local Area to contribute to local life magazine and represent youth education at any other meetings as advised by the youth education manager. > To deliver youth education learning content that has been quality assured by the Red Cross and approved by director of education, adapting content based on the needs and context of the learner. > To support the implementation of the education quality framework to ensure the appropriate level of assessment, evaluation and monitoring is in place. > To ensure that views of young people inform the continued development of the youth education offer. > To understand and assure that the youth education delivery is in line with the organisation’s definition of quality education. > Actively participate in sharing best practice with peers and in the development of youth education learning content and the peer education approach > To contribute to the development of resources guided by Red Cross quality standards working with the youth education manager and the UK youth education team. > To recruit, train, develop and manage a team of volunteers responsible for facilitating youth education with children and young people if necessary and in agreement with the youth education manager. > To manage, develop and maintain local education partnerships, networks and relationships with schools and other formal/ informal educational organisations. > To maintain confidentiality in accordance with safeguarding children and young people policy. data protection and > To be part of the emergency response in event of a local or national response directed by line manager. > To attend other local Area meetings as relevant to the role and as advised by the youth education manager. > To undertaking any other relevant duties as required within the overall scope of the post. > To uphold the fundamental principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement; to work in pursuit of the Red Cross’ vision, mission and objectives, to work within its diversity policy and to support and promote its values.
