Accountable for securing routes to deliver first aid learning to risk audience groups and individuals identified with an increased risk of a first aid crisis. Focused on developing learner confidence and willingness to act in a crisis. Context The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. Overall purpose of the role The post holder has operational responsibility for the delivery of adult education in the local area building individual and community resilience through first aid learning. The post holder is required to have a combination of proven line management experience, project management skills, relationship management skills and excellent communication skills. Service manager – adult education 1 Main responsibilities and duties > To line manage direct reports and maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of staff and volunteers in line with the risk model for adult education. > To responsible for the delivery of adult education, through effective planning, monitoring, reporting, budgeting and evaluation. > To ensure the Area education team meets the required quality standard and maximises effectiveness, efficiency and consistency. > To ensure local recruitment, induction, training and the development of staff and volunteers is to agreed national standards. > To share best practice with peers and direct reports and participate in knowledge sharing forums . > To actively participate in the development of adult education through collaborative working with the national education team. > To be accountable for the administration of BRM and subsequent reporting facilitated by the BRM system. > To develop and implement the adult education project plans in line with the risk model. > To develop and maintain effective local partnerships/multipliers relationships as a route to targeted audiences > To manage training resources including equipment and materials and to monitor the budget in collaboration with the post holder’s line manager. > To support the senior service manager in identifying and securing external funding opportunities in the local Area. > To work collaboratively with the national education Area support team. > To actively seek to develop external relationships and networks with community groups, particularly vulnerable and at risk groups. > To support the senior services manager in proactively networking and developing external relationships with relevant influential bodies to establish effective routes to people in crisis > To take an active part in health & safety issues within the Area and take responsibility for the health & safety aspects of the role. > To uphold the fundamental principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement: to work in pursuit of the Red Cross’s vision, mission and objectives, to work within its diversity policy and to support and promote its values. > To undertake any other duties as requested by your line manager. service manager – adult education 2 Person Specification Requirements Education & training Generic to job type > Recognised qualification in people or project management or equivalent by experience desirable Specialism/function /dept specific1 Experience Generic to job type > Experience of planning and implementation, including production of operational plans and budgets > Experience of identifying sources of funding in partnerships with fundraising, submitting contract bids and managing externally funded projects and. > Experience of managing and supporting staff and volunteers and leading, developing and managing a team > Experiencing monitoring and evaluating service standards and quality. > Experience in project management such as needs analysis, project planning and process > Experience of building strong and effective partnerships with local authorities, statutory services and external organisations, in particular those who provide advice and support to vulnerable adults > Working knowledge of legislation relevant to working with and supporting vulnerable adults > Ability to communicate effectively at all levels internally and externally > Ability to collate and interpret a range of management information including statistical information and user feedback > IT literate and competent in Microsoft Office applications and databases Specialism/function /dept specific1 Skills & knowledge Generic to job type service manager – adult education 3 Specialism/function /dept specific1 Competencies Generic to job type For managers, all Red Cross management development framework competencies apply.
