Shelter Veterinarian Champaign County Humane Society, in Urbana, IL, seeks an experienced veterinarian with a passion for shelter medicine to join our staff by March 1, 2016. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys a collaborative work environment and being a teacher/mentor to staff and veterinary students. The CCHS Shelter Veterinarian (SV) is a part-time position (25 hours/wk), reporting to the Executive Director. The SV works closely with the Medical Care Manager and Shelter Manager to maintain the health of the shelter’s animal population through effective protocols of animal husbandry and the diagnosis & treatment of medical conditions. The SV performs, or supervises the performance of, all surgeries at CCHS, including spay/neuter of shelter animals and animals brought in through our low-cost clinics. Many other surgical procedures are performed on shelter animals as needed. We treat a wide variety of medical conditions and have a robust foster-care program for recovering animals and infants. Other responsibilities include instructing/supervising UI veterinary students that come to CCHS for Shelter Medicine Rotations, training Medical Staff members, serving clients at CCHS low-cost vaccine and spay/neuter clinics, and attending staff and board meetings.
