Objectives of Assessment Activity: Learning outcomes: 1 Be able to plan, carry out, monitor and maintain daily routines Plan: Daily and weekly routines; regular jobs; team working; effective use of time Monitor: Check routine stable management undertaken record tasks Stable duties: bedding and mucking out; sweeping and raking; yard maintenance; rules of feeding; common feedstuffs and forages, feed charts); tack cleaning; care of saddles and bridles 4 Be able to work safely around horses Safety and first aid: personal protective equipment (PPE), clothing for safe work, potential hazards; accident prevention; manual handling and lifting techniques; health and safety in the stable environment; 2. Scenario and Student Task(s): When working and keeping horses you work for long hours administering basic care. The jobs can be hard and very physical but are essential to ensure the horses in your care stay healthy. During the course of the school year you will undertake yard work on a regular basis. Every few weeks you will be required to complete a schedule of routines. This will require you to spend several days on the yard during the course of the year so that you can experience how a fully functioning yard operates on a daily / weekly basis Over the year you will look after a variety of horses. For your routine weeks you will be given horses and the basic welfare of these horses will be your responsibility while you are on routines. You will be expected to provide: (P10) A clean hygienic stable with fresh bedding when required Feed and water A daily groom Information to the yard staff on any health issues the horses may be suffering from Care for the horses saddle and bridle You must keep a log of your routine activities. (P1, P2) Plan and carry out daily and weekly stable routines(P1) Monitor daily and weekly stable routines (P2) You will be graded for your routine duties and these will be received and discussed within your tutorials You will be observed on your ability to demonstrate that you understand and can undertake a safe working ethic whilst working around horses. Your tutor will write a witness statement and complete some observation records to evidence this. (P12, M1) When on the yard remember you are part of a team! 3.
