Mandarin 1 Flag Project DUE DATE: Name____________________ Period____________________ Standards: Being able to write the different words in Chinese, in this case the different countries of the world (Structure, Content) Being able to use creativity to portray the flags of different countries (Content) Understand how sentences are structured in the Chinese language (Structure, Content) Objective: Your task for this project is to make the flags of different countries: 1. You will be drawing, coloring, and cutting out the flags of 20 different countries. 2. You are going to present your flags to the class and keep in mind the following: a. You are going to say the English name of the country you are presenting AND it’s Chinese counterpart! b. You are going to create 5 sentences for 5 DIFFERENT countries (Said in English and Chinese) i. Sentences must be written/typed in both Chinese AND English and have a copy ready when presenting to the class, which will then be submitted to the grader. Scoring: Your project will be graded on the following criteria. Flags Presentation (50 pts): Are your flags properly sized and did you cut them all out? Did you use the correct colors when making the flag? o 2 pts for every flag that is miss-colored! o 2 pts off for every flag that is not the proper size (verify with teacher by what proper size means) o FAILURE TO DRAW/COLOR/CUT THEM RESULTS IN A ZERO ON THIS SECTION OF GRADING! Words/Reading/Pronunciation (50 pts): Did you read the words in Chinese correctly? Did you write/type sentences in both Chinese and English? Did you provide the grader with a copy of your sentences after the presentation? o 2 pts off for every error in pronunciation when presenting o 2 pts off for every error in grammar/structure of sentences on the paper o PINYIN IS A NO NO! Extra Scoring: The final overall score will be modified by the extra criteria. Volunteering to Present (+10 to final score): FIRST 10 STUDENTS ONLY! Missing Rubric (-10 to final score): A rubric written on paper is considered a “missing” one Late Project (-20 to final score): Student fails to present on the day he/she is called.
