Sustainability has always been important at Thyme and Again, continually striving to reduce their environmental impact. They take pride in their environmental efforts and encourage others to follow their footsteps. Sheila Whyte, president and owner of Thyme and Again values the importance of reducing their environmental impact and believes that everyone should focus on the “wins” when dealing with improving sustainability rather than the challenges. The use of local and organic suppliers for produce as well as chocolate, tea and fair trade coffee Thyme and Again pushes societal boundaries with their outstanding composting and recycling waste efforts diverting almost all of their kitchen waste from landfills Creation of their own recycling program for Thyme & Again’s in-house made salad dressing bottles, where customers may return bottles and refill them They are powered by 100% Bullfrog Power that runs on green energy Use of chlorine-free coffee cups, the inner lining of the cups are made from 100% corn, the paper comes from sustainably harvested trees and are composted at a commercial compost site Member of Sustainable Enterprise Alliance, a collaboration of Ottawa-area businesses that are working toward sustainable business practices Use of all natural cleaning supplies Achievements After travelling to Honduras and witnessing local children playing on mounds of plastic water bottles, Sheila was inspired and created a successful ban on plastic water bottles in Thyme and Again’s retail shop and at all of the company’s catering jobs.
