Sheila Whyte, president and owner of Thyme and Again
values the importance of reducing their environmental
impact and believes that everyone should focus on the
“wins” when dealing with improving sustainability
rather than the challenges.
 The use of local and organic suppliers for produce as
well as chocolate, tea and fair trade coffee
 Thyme and Again pushes societal boundaries with their
outstanding composting and recycling waste efforts
diverting almost all of their kitchen waste from landfills
 Creation of their own recycling program for Thyme &
Again’s in-house made salad dressing bottles, where
customers may return bottles and refill them
 They are powered by 100% Bullfrog Power that runs on
green energy
 Use of chlorine-free coffee cups, the inner lining of the
cups are made from 100% corn, the paper comes from
sustainably harvested trees and are composted at a
commercial compost site
 Member of Sustainable Enterprise Alliance, a
collaboration of Ottawa-area businesses that are
working toward sustainable business practices
 Use of all natural cleaning supplies
Achievements
After travelling to Honduras and witnessing local
children playing on mounds of plastic water bottles,
Sheila was inspired and created a successful ban on
