MISS STANLEY’S NEWSLETTER November 9 - 13, 2015 Dear Parents, We had some fun events this week in second grade! I hope your child told you all about the author visit and Nut Day we had this week. Ronda Friend was amazing. She is a wonderful story teller, singer, writer, and so much more. Her energy was contagious. We even had one of our very own students from our class get involved with some of the fun. She pulled Ian right up with her in the action. I even got to get up in front of the group and show some dance moves! Well….let’s just say you didn’t miss much as far as my dancing is concerned. Mr. Beach stole the show on that one. The only male classroom teacher gets “picked on” a bit working with all these ladies at Hoxie Grade School! ;) Nut Day was also this week. The students were excited to stomp away to get those seeds out! We buried the nuts up close the highway so have your child point it out next time you are driving through town on Highway 24. We’ll dig them up in the spring. Then, the students will get to plant a burr oak seed and black walnut seed in cups and bring them home. Thanks for all you do! Miss Stanley UPCOMING EVENTS November 16: K-6 Music Concert November 25-27: No School/Thanksgiving Break Rocket Math You should have seen some Rocket Math papers come home this week in your child’s red take home folder. The students are doing well!! I’m pleased how the class is doing overall. When your child meets the goal written at the bottom of the page, they advance to the next letter in the alphabet. Each time they advance, more math facts are introduced, but they’ll only have 40 problems. The facts start easy and get harder. As your child gets more problems correct, their goal goes up. I am moving their goals rather gradually. We have had some behavior issues when the students are not in my classroom. These issues are not major issues. It really comes down to respect and making good choices. I would like you to talk to your child about what they can do when they are near someone that’s not making good choices. What can they say? What can they do? We have talked about what it means to be a leader and how to intervene in a positive way. Teamwork is so important in my classroom because it is important in life.
