Colonel William E. Geesey Commander, U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity Colonel William E. Geesey, a distinguished military graduate from the University of Southern California, where he completed ROTC and was first in his class. He was commissioned in the Infantry in 1989 and later transferred to the Medical Service Corps. With more than 30 years of active, reserve and National Guard service, Colonel Geesey has held a wide variety of leadership positions in medical logistics, medical information technology and healthcare administration. Early in his career, Colonel Geesey had multiple assignments with the 82nd Airborne Division. In 1998, he was selected to serve as the Project Manager for the TriService Medical Logistics automated information system for medical echelon I/II units with the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) Program. Colonel Geesey has served tours in the Office of The Surgeon General's Directorate of Logistics and as Chief, Medical Plans, Operations and Policy, Headquarters Department of the Army, G-4. He served two tours in Korea, first as Executive Officer, 52nd Medical Battalion, and then as Chief, Logistics Division/S-4, 121st Combat Support Hospital. He later served as a Deputy Commander for the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS) in Bangkok, Thailand. Following his assignment at AFRIMS, Colonel Geesey served four years as the Command Select List Product Manager for the Medical Communications for Combat Casualty Care (MC4) program. He then returned to AFRIMS serving for three years as commander. His assignments have included numerous operational deployments to include Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. Colonel Geesey's awards and honors include the Legion of Merit (second award), Meritorious Service Medal (seventh award), Army Commendation Medal (seventh award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (second award), Expert Field Medical Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Army Staff Identification Badge, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, and the Order of Military Medical Merit. In 1998, Colonel Geesey was selected as a General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award Winner. While serving as an enlisted Infantryman, he was selected as the United States Army Forces Command Soldier of the Year in 1986. Colonel Geesey earned a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors and a Master of Public Administration degree, both from the University of Southern California. He also earned master's degrees in Computer Resources & Information Management and Strategic Studies. Colonel Geesey is a graduate of the Army War College, and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He is a certified Army Acquisition Corps officer and maintains acquisition certification in Program Management, Information Technology, and Science and Technology Management, as well as certification from the American Hospital Association as a Certified Materials and Resource Professional.
