 Course Objectives
1 This course aims to introduce students to the basic translation skills and
to consolidate students’ knowledge of English through some training in
translating simple, compound and complex sentences into Arabic and
vice versa. Translation represents interlingual communication. Therefore,
the course highlights the contrast between the two languages. The course
also concentrates on clarifying a number of grammatical issues that are
typically problematic for English learners.
2. Course Syllabus
The course will cover the following items:
1- Presenting some basic terms used in translation such as equivalence,
context, literal translation, free translation, naturalization, Arabization
and so on.
2- Introducing types of translation, translation strategies and types of
dictionaries.
3- Translating sentence types (simple, complex and compound).
4- Translating the noun phrase (the definite article, singular, dual and plural
nouns, masculine vs. feminine).
5- Translating the verb phrase (The tenses, the modals, the voice, the
aspect).
6- Translating the adjectives, adverbs and prepositions.
