Fees and funding – 2016 entry
Fees and Funding
With very generous scholarships and fee waivers on offer for 2016 entry this is a very
good year to be starting a science or engineering degree course at Teesside University.
This document provides only a brief summary of fees and funding for 2016 entry.
Applicants are advised to check their eligibility for the various scholarships, bursaries, fee
waivers and grants available by visiting our web pages where a more complete guide on
fees and funding together with links to sources for more information is available. See for
example www.tees.ac.uk/sections/fulltime/funding2015.cfm
Tuition fees
The tuition fees for UK/EU students starting full-time undergraduate (MEng, BEng, BEng
Tech, BSc) degree courses in science and engineering are £9,000/year (but refer to the
section later in this document on Teesside scholarships, fee waivers and discounted fees
for 2016 entry).
Fees for a full time HNC or HND are £6,000/year.
Tuition fee loans
A student loan is a risk free investment. You invest in your own future. For most UK/EU
students starting university in 2016 there will be nothing to pay upfront for your education.
Your fees will be paid by the Student Loan Company directly to the university and you will
not be required to pay anything towards your student loan until you graduate and your UK
earnings exceed £21,000 (the threshold varies by country and may be different for
students working overseas).
Your repayments will be taken out of your salary at the same time as tax and National
Insurance if you’re an employee. Your payslips will show how much has been deducted.
Full details are available at https://www.gov.uk/student-finance/repayments
Maintenance Loan for living costs
The loan is paid directly into your bank account at the start of term. You have to pay the
loan back. You may have to give details of your household income. EU students can’t
apply for Maintenance Loans. The amount you can borrow depends on whether you will
be living at home or away from home during your studies, your household income and
where you live (in London, or outside London).
Go to www.gov.uk/student-finance/loans-and-grants for full details and access to a
finance calculator.
