Moderator/Panelist Biographical Information Moderator: Vickie White Assistant Vice President; Florida Hospital Nicholson Center Born, raised and currently residing in Florida, Vickie is a true Floridian through and through. While her home has remained in the Sunshine State, her work has taken her around the globe. As a hospital executive at Florida Hospital, Vickie has shaped various service lines that draw patients nationally and internationally. Vickie is noted for her executive oversight of the Nicholson Center – a state-of-the-art, international training center that trains over 12,000 physicians and clinical learners annually. Vickie has successfully negotiated mutually beneficial affiliations with leading healthcare organizations that span four continents and lectures internationally on healthcare strategy and innovation. She has a background in healthcare marketing, business development, strategy and operations. When she is not working, Vickie enjoys playing with her two boys and husband, Brad. Panelists: CHRISTOPHER NIKLAS, MBA Senior International Consultant, Nemours Children’s Hospital Mr. Niklas is an independent business consultant with focus in the Healthy Living, Wellness and Longevity sector. His academic and business backgrounds distinguish his work in corporate business development and strategy for healthcare systems. His approach stresses creativity in business thinking, products and processes. In his professional engagements Mr. Niklas has reported directly to COO and CEO level leadership. He often collaborates with top tier management firms, including McKinsey & Co., Boston Consulting Group, Booz & Co. and Deloitte Consulting. His work has engaged strategies of Creative Destruction, the Art of Innovation and emphasis on Quick and Nimble remedies to problematic business practices, much of which he has learned first-hand from prestigious authors, mentors and colleagues. Mr. Niklas was most recently contracted as senior International consultant at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Medical City, Lake Nona. His emphasis was to establish processes to support an international medical program. His vision was to create global relationships in health care bringing collaborative value to education, research and clinical care for children in Central, South America and the Caribbean. Mr. Niklas is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and holds an MBA from the Anderson School of Business Management, UCLA. He lives in Lake Nona with his wife, Dr. Victoria Niklas who heads the Division of Newborn Critical Care Medicine for Nemours Children’s Hospital. Hank Kearney has a BA in Economics from Rutgers University and is one of only a handful of individuals with both the MHP (Managed Healthcare Professional) and RHU (Registered Health Underwriter) designations. DONNA MALVEY, PhD Associate Professor, University of Central Florida Donna Malvey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Management and Informatics at the University of Central Florida. She has also held an appointment as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Healthcare Leadership at Brown University, teaching in their inaugural executive program in healthcare management and leadership. She received her Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration from the George Washington University and completed an administrative residency and postgraduate fellowship in health systems at the VA Medical Center in Washington, D. C. She earned her Ph.D. in Administration-Health Services from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and received a national award from Sodexho Marriott for her dissertation research on medical group practices. Donna is a nationally known speaker with audiences of practitioner organizations and academic conferences. She has been interviewed in the press and on television about health care issues, ranging from physician unions to retail health care. Her funded research includes a study of patient flow management in local public health departments, which was underwritten by a grant from IBM. Donna has published extensively in the health care field. She is co-author of The Retail Revolution in Health Care, which was published by Praeger, 2010, and received a recommendation from the American Library Association’s Choice Review. This book examines the silent revolution in health care delivery that is being driven by the private sector. She is currently at work on a book about mobile health applications and their impact on healthcare service delivery. The book, m-Health: Transforming Healthcare (Springer) is scheduled for release later this year. She is also working as a co-editor for a forthcoming handbook of healthcare management research (Elgar). Donna is a reviewer for a number of health care management journals and has served as a member of the editorial advisory board of Health Care Management Review. She was appointed by the Governor of Florida to serve two terms as a member of the Florida Cancer Control and Research Advisory Board. Donna has worked in a variety of health care settings and served as the executive director of a national trade association, representing health professionals in private practice. She also has worked as a congressional aide on Capitol Hill.
