CHETWYND’S TENNIS CLUB St. Vincent Street Tunapuna APPEAL FOR TOURNAMENT PLAYERS Background Over the last 25 years a “Single Court Club” - Chetwynd’s Tennis Club, located at St. Vincent Street, Tunapuna, embarked on Easter Competitions as Ambassadors throughout the Northern Hemisphere. The Club took players to the following Countries – Grenada, Barbados, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Guyana, Venezuela, Suriname, Curacao, Tortola, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Bahamas, Mexico, Antigua etc. Plans have been put in place to visit Panama during 12th – 19th April 2012 to participate in a Tournament with their elite Players. These arrangements were coordinated by Steve Thomas with the assistance of International Tennis Federation (ITF) Director – Central America, Anthony Jeremiah. Why Panama? They have a high ranking at Davis Cup Level. Tennis Players are First Class competitors. The tour was approved and launched by the Panamanian Ambassador, with Government to Government arrangements and all protocol extended to the visiting Team. Opportunity to highlight Tennis and build sporting relationships between the two countries. It’s also the second largest Free Zone after Hong Kong in the world for business travel. Grand Show Tournament Players In all our travels we have never played a country in Central America and the decision was to impress upon our counterparts the opportunity to have a grand slam Caribbean versus Central America. The ideal approach for us therefore is to solicit the participation of the top over thirty (30’s) players in Trinidad and Tobago for one Grand Showdown in Panama. This objective would not be achieved if the under mentioned individuals are not part of the Team. Cost of Trip/Flight/Hotel Accommodation Airfare: TT$3,900.00 (Copa Airlines) Accommodation: TT$1,800.00 Breakfast/shopping /bi lingual tour TT$6,271.38 Challenge We have only one month before travel and to date we do not have the full commitment of players. In light of this, I am appealing to you all to come forward and seize the opportunity to be part of history in the making. Summary T&T is well known to the Panamanians given the recent trade negotiations held with our country and as such we will be treated with the utmost respect and hospitality. I believe that we have come a long way with events like these and it will be heart wrenching and most of all embarrassing to say the least, to have engaged such high level personnel to coordinate this tournament and at the end of the day, not even manage to pull a respectable team together. Failure was never one of our mantras and it shouldn’t become one. We have an alternative payment plan in place. Seize the opportunity! I urge you to liaise with your fellow players and encourage them to be part of this Caribbean Central American showdown. ___________________________________ Steve Thomas Co-ordinator Chetwynd’s Panama Tour
