MEMORANDUM FOR: ALL Cavalier Battalion Cadets and Instructors
SUBJECT: Memorandum of Instruction (MOI) for the Wounded Warrior 10K road march
(12 September 2015)
GENERAL: Dorman High School JROTC Battalion will host the 2015 Wounded Warrior 10K Road
March on Saturday, 12 September 2015. Estimated timeline is from 0800-1200.
A. Purpose: The purpose of This MOI is to set forth a procedure to govern the
informing the Cadre and Cadets of this event.
B. Location: Cavalier Track and Soccer Field (start point); Dorman Campus, Dorman
High School (Roebuck, SC)
C. Arrival: Cadets should arrive NLT 0800
D. Attendance: All Cadets, their friends and family members.
E. Uniform: PT Uniform (comfortable shorts and battalion tee shirt), running shoes,
water bottle/Camelback (optional)
RESPONSIBILITIES: The following assignments are made to ensure proper planning and
execution of the Wounded Warrior 10k Road March.
Battalion Commander: Overall responsible for the task execution. Give information to
Company Commanders to inform their Cadets about water stations and initial meeting location.
Re-inform the cadets about all procedure during the battalion formation.
Battalion XO: Overall responsible for staff coordination and integration of all planning
and preparation efforts. Serve as event Safety Officer and establish ambulatory capacity for
injured Cadets. Coordinate fundraising with the Company Commanders and the S-2.
Command Sergeant Major: Assist companies with proper Cadet Accountability before,
during, and after event. Help obtain parent volunteers for manning water stations. Inform 1SGs
of the route that the 10k is mapped on. Fall in the battalion at 830. Receive the report. Get the
battalion motivated.
Staff:
S1: Receive attendance report from CSM. Record attendance using class rosters.
Coordinate with AIs at DFC for rosters. Coordinate unit 1SGs to validate event attendance
before event conclusion. Ensure event is placed in JUMS and all participating Cadets are linked
to the event. It is a community service event (5 hours credit).

S2: Establish route road guards. Get 4 Cadet Road guards from each company.
Responsible for assisting Cadre in collecting raised money from Cadets. Ensure proper custody
and security of fundraiser money, paperwork and items throughout the evening. Turn in
money to SAI/AI as soon as possible upon completion. Ensure that all road guards are wearing
reflector vests prior to posting at duty location.
S3: Overall staff responsibility for planning, rehearsing, and executing the operation.
Ensure all tasks and activities are established, assigned, and rehearsed by appropriate
personnel. Coordinate with S1 for attendance validation. Task units as required for required
escort, program, or admin personnel and equipment. Ensure money collection capability is
provided at operations area.
S4: Help provide all necessary event supplies and equipment. This includes water
stations (four coolers), two canopies, first aid station, supplies, and cameras. Provide the S-2
with road guard vests. Identify two Cadets (staff or staff assistants) to man the first aid
station, gain approval from SAI.
S5: Designate two S5 assistants to take pictures and provide proper media coverage of
the event. Ensure coverage of event by multiple media sources (D6 PA, BN news, and
photographer). Identify event news reporter and photographer (videographer). Promote event
to ensure maximum Cadet and Parent participation. ICW the BN XO, aggressively promote
fundraiser. Make digital copies of pictures of pictures to upload onto The Cavalier Battalion
Website and The Cavalier Newsletter. ICW with the SAI, contact the Herald Journal and News
Channel 7.
Units: Responsible for preparation and monitoring of Cadet participation in the event.
Provide road guards and support to event operations as directed. Maintain rosters and
attendance. Responsible for management of unit fundraising actions. Report your fundraising
status to Battalion XO.
1. Alpha Company: Provide 3 cadet road guards and 1 Cadet Alternate
2. Bravo Company: Provide 3 cadet road guards and 1 Cadet Alternate
3. Charlie Company: Provide 3 cadets for water stations and 1 Cadet Alternate
Sequence of Events
0700-0815: Setup Operations area, place water stations and road guards
0815-0830: Final equipment, administrative, and operational checks.
0830-0845: Accountability formation, Safety Brief
