Sharon Poarch, Executive Director, Shelter Home of Caldwell County Mrs. Sharon Poarch, Executive Director of the Shelter Home of Caldwell County, updated the Council on the renovations at the Shelter Home. The Shelter Home, which opened its’ doors in 1978, has provided thousands of women and children with safe shelter, food, clothing and basic needs as they had to escape the violence or abuse in their homes. Caldwell County has sustained the Shelter Home mission through generous donations and through the unselfish gift of their time and service to these victims. Currently, the Shelter Home is funded by seven (7) State grants, as well as local grants. The Board of Directors of the Shelter Home has embarked on a mission of renewal and growth for the Shelter Home Mission. A renovation and expansion capital project will renew the existing 4,500 square foot structure, and will add 5,000 square feet of new construction to double the size from a 21 bed facility to a 40 bed facility. The proposed growth is more than just bricks and mortar. The programs will also grow to help meet the needs of families and individuals who are rebuilding as they recover from domestic violence or sexual abuse and become survivors – not victims. The capital project budget is $1,155,000.00. The funding sources to date are as follows: NC Housing Finance Agency $500,000.00 Federal Home loan Bank 390,000.00 Local Foundations 25,000.00 Individual Donors 3,150.00 2 The Shelter Home’s Capital Campaign Goal is $300,000.00, to be raised by June 1, 2011 in order to begin construction.
