Ngāti Rangataua - Te Kei Merito Apology- Proxy M Heitia 1. 1.1 OPIHI/MARINA DISTRICT PLAN HEARING Environmental Commissioners have released their report regarding the Opihi/Marina District Plan hearings. Management are satisfied that the likelihood of a marina precinct in this area is greatly reduced. Ngati Hokopu requested that an an appeal be lodged before 18 July 2014. A report that identifies rationale for appeal is being drafted. 2. 2.1 KIWI TRUST MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) Management met with the Kiwi Trust and are working through operational matters. The drafting of an MOU between TRONA and the Trust is in progress. 3. 3.1 CONSERVATION OF WHAKAIRO AT TE WHARE MATAATUA A plan for the conservation and restoration of whakairo at Mataatua Wharenui is underway. Photographs of whakairo inside and out of the whare have been completed. Once photographs of whakairo stored at the Army Hall have been taken the conservator will then be able to prepare a report for Board consideration. 4. 4.1 AHUWHENUA TROPHY WINNER Congratulations to Taranaki farm Te Rua o Te Moko, winner of the Ahuwhenua Trophy. 5. 5.1 NAGHL DIRECTORSHIP Sir Wira Gardiner has rescinded his resignation and will continue to serve until his rotation in October. Sir Wira will not be seeking re-election.Graham Pryor was removed as a Director of NAGHL to take effect immediately. Paul Quinn was appointed as a NAGHL Director to serve until rotation in October. A comprehensive process for NAGHL Directorships (2) will be implemented in October. r. 6. NZ MAORI COUNCIL URGENT CLAIM TO TREATY OF WAITANGI TRIBUNAL – TE REO STRATEGY The NZ Maori Council has lodged a claim with the Waitangi Tribunal and is awaiting the Crown’s response. The Council has received support from 22 primary, intermediate, state, charter and private schools. Over 5,800 students are participating in Te Reo Tuatahi programme. 6.1 7. 7.1 TRONA STANDING COMMITTEES Draft terms of reference for the re-defined Audit Finance and Risk Committee and Appointment and Remuneration Committee, were tabled for consideration . It was proposed to finalise the terms of reference at the July TRONA meeting. Feedback is requested to the Chair of the Review Committee 8. 8.1 KAHUI KAUMATUA REPORT On the 24 June the Principal of Edgecumbe College gave a presentation on the levels of achievements and outcomes for young people at Edgecumbe College. 8.2 An update from Della Te Pere confirmed preparations are well underway for the Ngati Awa Te Toki festival. The Ngati Awa website and facebook will be updated to reflect progress. 8.3 An update regarding the conservation and preservation of taonga specifically Mataatua Wharenui was provided by the CEO. The Kahui Kaumatua consider it time for Ngati Awa to have its own whare taonga so that all the taonga still in storage can be seen. A group of kaumatua will visit the Army Hall to view stored taonga. 8.4 A request for more Ngati Awa to attend major events occurring throughout the motu was noted. The next important event which could be considered for improved coordination is Kingi Tuheitia’s coronation. 8.5 The Runanga is supporting Whakatane RSA preparations for the World War 1 Commemorations scheduled for next year. The organising committee are erecting a carved waharoa at Mitchell Park in memory of all the Ngati Awa servicemen. Te Runanga o Ngati Awa is planning an exhibition at Te Manuka Tutahi commemorating the stories and lives of Ngati Awa WW1 soldiers and their whanau. Whanau are asked to contact Research and Archives to be involved. 8.6 Hemana Eruera and Maanu Paul sit on the board of the Kaunihera Tekaumarua which has been set up to care for the kingitanga and unite all Maori across the motu. 9. 9.1 AOTEAROA MAORI CHOIR Aotearoa Maori Choir was given permission to perform on the atea of the Mataatua Wharenui on Sunday 2 November 2014 at 2.30pm to commemorate WW1. 10. 10.1 NGATI AWA MANA WHENUA The Whakaruruha talked about the encroachment of our boundaries by neighbouring iwi as a concern and Ngati Awa needs to be assertive about our mana whenua.
