The City is offering approved residents the opportunity to participate in a Sanitary Sewer Backflow Prevention Device Program for those who have a history of sanitary sewer backups caused by an intense rainfall event or a surcharged sanitary sewer system. The program allows residents and businesses to have the backflow prevention device of their choice installed in their place of residence or work. The City will reimburse the pre-approved homeowner 75 percent of the total cost of the project. The property owner is responsible for scheduling the work and paying the contractor for all associated installation work and restoration costs. Upon completion of the work, the property owner must submit proof of payment to the City before the City will reimburse 75 percent of the agreed quote. For those interested in the program, contact Tony Conn, program administrator, at connt@naperville.il.us or (630) 305-5537. ********************************** Flood Recovery Notice to all Homeowners If you are planning to sell your house, you must instruct your realtor that a letter from Moser and Heier Accounting Services is necessary before you can settle. Latest News: Reminder: If you reported damage to the City of Naperville already, you must still call FEMA in order to receive assistance. The only way to receive FEMA assistance is by applying through FEMA. Reporting damage to the City assisted in documenting the significant impact needed in order to receive a Presidential Disaster Declaration. Now that the Declaration has been issued, residents must apply for assistance directly through FEMA. FEMA operates a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in DuPage County at the Lisle Police Department (5040 Lincoln Avenue, Lisle). The DRC is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays, until further notice. Please note that the assistance offered via the DRC location is identical to assistance available to residents who register via phone or Internet. As such, residents may find it more convenient to apply for assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or by going online to www.disasterassistance.gov. ****************************** Update There have been a series of residential burglaries in Naperville including our neighborhood. Residents are encouraged to report unusual or suspicious behavior by calling the Naperville Police Non-Emergency number at 630-420-6666 or 911 in an emergency. Write down the description of the person(s) and license numbers of any vehicles involved. The Police Department reminds us that: Your job is to REPORT crime. The responsibility for apprehending criminals belongs to the police. Below are some tips which can assist in reducing the chances of an occurrence. LANDSCAPING • Don’t block entrances or create hiding places with your plants and/or bushes • Plant thorny or spiny bushes to discourage entry • Keep all landscaping well trimmed • Position trees so they don’t hide windows, walkways or doors • Consider gravel instead of mulch, it’s noisy • Don’t create roof access • No tree branches below 6 feet • Remove ladders when finished with them LIGHTS • Exterior lighting • Doors: house and garage • Entryways and ground-level windows • Out of reach so can’t be broken/unscrewed • Motion detectors • Photoelectric Lights • Interior lighting • Timers • Kitchen WINDOWS • Use additional security on ground level windows • LOCK them • Use dowel rods, pins, or deadbolts (Cautions) • Keep trees and bushes trimmed back • Secure air conditioners with window brackets and screws Questions?
