Our School Value this term
Wisdom
‘He who walks with the wise, grows wise’
Proverbs 13:20
‘Knowledge comes from learning but wisdom comes from living.’
Anthony Douglas Williams
Dear Parents/Carers,
There is certainly a growing Christmas ‘buzz’ in the air here at school, especially in KS1 where the Nativity is being practised with great gusto. The children can be heard singing across the school in readiness for our Christmas Carol Service as our final Christmas event of the term
(more details below). As well as Christmas there is a great deal happening and school continues to be an incredibly busy and happy environment. From celebrating Universal
Children’s Day to visits from Stone Age visitors there is plenty of variety for all.
PTA Christmas Fair
This takes place on Friday 4 th December and the preparations are in full swing. Thank you to all parents for the very kind donations which have been brought into school on our series of
‘dress-down days’. Without these donations the PTA would not be able to raise the funds which provide such wonderful items for school, such as the new outdoor classroom and contributions towards trips and visitors to school.
Thanks also to the parents who give their time to organise and help with the setting up of the
Christmas Fair. There is a tremendous amount of work which has to happen behind the scenes to enable the smooth running and successful outcome of such projects. For this I am extremely grateful.
Christmas Craft Club
Thanks to Mrs Sarah Wyatt and Mrs Mio Buntin who have set up two evenings after school where the children can make Christmas crafts. Both ladies have given up their own time, provided all the materials for the activities and spend a great deal of time clearing away afterwards. All the profits from the two sessions are being donated to the PTA. This is a very generous act from the two mums and I am very grateful for their enterprise.
Nativity
This year the Nativity is called ‘A Miracle in Town’ and takes place on December 9 th and 10 th at 2pm. Please can I request that toddlers/younger siblings do not attend the performances as they can often be a distraction for the children participating. They are of course very welcome to attend our dress rehearsal which is on Tuesday 8 th December at 2pm.
Christmas Carol Service
This is an annual event which takes place at St Alban’s Church at Watchfield. As usual all children will be taking part, including the school orchestra and choir. This year the event has been organised by Mrs Trollen and I’m sure it is going to be a wonderful end to the term. The service begins at 6pm and if we can have children arriving at 5.30pm it will enable us to start promptly. Doors will open for parents at 5.45pm. I look forward to seeing you all there to share the true meaning of Christmas.
Reading Morning
We have trialled a ‘Reading Morning’ with Reception children in Class where parents some into the class and read with their children. This was received very well by parents who have made a number of positive comments and appeared to enjoy the experience. We will repeat this initiative in term 3. Many thanks to the parents who have taken time to give feedback.
Stone Age comes to Class 3
Class 3 were visited by 2 Stone Age experts this week. The children enjoyed their day making clay pots and learning about cavemen, particularly looking at some of the weapons they used.
I am looking forward to Class 3 assembly this afternoon when I’m sure I will learn more!
The future
We are looking forward to an exciting few weeks at Longcot and Fernham CE School, with preparations for the festive season, pantomine and lots of engaging activities happening in class as part of our normal curriculum.
I hope to see many of you at next week’s Christmas
Fair, but in the meantime, I wish you a relaxing weekend .
Yours sincerely,
Headteacher
