Biomedical Science Investigations- Summer Assignment 2015
HUMAN BODY ORGANIZATION
This assignment is required for all incoming sophomores in Biomedical Science
Investigations. It is optional for incoming juniors and seniors. I highly suggest that
seniors review the material. Juniors, since you just completed this material at the
end of the semester, it should be fresh in your memory. All students should
familiarize themselves with LucidChart. We will be doing some concept
mapping this school year.
BSM has decided to adopt Lucidchart as its new concept mapping software. We will
no longer be using Inspiration. It is part of your Google Drive. Just click on more to
get to it.
The basic unit of life is cells. Cells are then grouped into tissues, tissues into
organs, and organs into systems.
Assignment #1
Your assignment is to create a concept map of the 4 basic types of tissuesepithelial, connective, nervous, and muscular (for muscular- include the 3
subtypes) For each tissue, list the following:
a. list 3 characteristics of the tissue
b. minimum of 3 examples of where the tissue is found in the body (except cardiac)
Assignment #2
Your assignment is to research the 11 systems in the human body and then create a
concept map of the systems. For each system, list the following:
a. main function(s) of that system
b. organs found in that system
Because you will be RESEARCHING this material, please be sure to cite your
sources. As a future leader in the biomedical field, you will need to learn to APA
formatting (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/05/). Please share as a
GoogleDoc Titled “HumanBodyOrgReferences.” Any citation generator should also
work for you, but double check it against the link above. Your list should have a
minimum of 3 sources.
Concept map must be shared with jroushar@bsmschool.org and
khoogenakker@bsmschool.org before the first class period. It should be titled
HumanBodyOrgConceptMap.
If you have any questions about LucidChart you may email Mr. Pohlen at
spohlen@bsmschool.org
Looking forward to see you next year!
