CHINESE INTRODUCTORY II
(ELEMENTARY 7 – 13-YO)
SELLECTIVE UNIT 2 (S02)
(Weather)
(September 2013)
Unit Statement: The student will identify recite from memory words and phrases for
weather.
Essential Outcomes: (must be assessed for mastery)
1. The Student Will recite from memory the following words about weather: 晚上
(evening),刮风(windy),怎么样 (how is it),晴天 (sunny)
2. TSW present a weather report using the sentence patterns: “What’s the weather
like…?” “Will it rain/snow…?” “It’s too cold/windy/hot/cloudy…”.
3. TSW identify the following words about weather: 后天 (the day after tomorrow),
下雪 (snowing), 冷 (cold),天气 (weather),阴天 (cloudy),上午
(morning),下午 (afternoon)
4. TSW write from memory the following words in Chinese characters: 风 (wind),
午 (noon), 阴 (cloudy),雨 (rain)
5. TSW compare the differences of weather in the North and South of China.
6. TSW self-select and read level appropriate literature independently for at least 20
minutes/week per unit during school hours.
Introduced /Practiced Outcomes: (see Course Outcomes)
1. The Student Will write at least two more sentences into their personal journal.
2. TSW practice the following words about weather: 刮风(windy),怎么样 (how is
it),晴天 (sunny), 晚上 (evening),后天 (the day after tomorrow),下雪
(snowing),冷 (cold),天气 (weather),阴天 (cloudy),上午 (morning),
下午 (afternoon)
3. TSW listen to the real weather forecast program from TV or radio and practice
summarizing it.
4. TSW keep a record in Chinese of statistics of weather changes for a month from
the place where they live and make a chart.

Suggested Assessment Tools and Strategies:
1. Choose one or two books from Suggested Materials above to read aloud to students.
2. Make a poster about weather and clothing. For example, what type of clothing
should be worn for different types of weather?
3. Create their dream land/country in which students introduce weather, location,
language, animals, sports, food and shopping in the land.
