Proportional DRAWING PROJECT
Goal: You will select a comic strip or artistic picture and proportionally enlarge it to best fit
an 8 ½ “ x 11” copy sheet of paper.
Include in your project:
1. Original picture & enlarged picture in a clear plastic sleeve
2. Proportional Drawing Project Measurements
3. Proportional Drawing Project Rubric
Illustration:
Step 1: Measure the “height” and width of the comic/picture in cm. (Remember the “height”
is your vertical or y-axis and your width is your horizontal or x-axis)
Height = __________
Width = ____________
Step 2: Draw a 4 x 4 grid using 16 “equal and precise” blocks proportional to the original
measurements. (Prove your measurements are proportional)
Height = __________ ÷ 4 = _________
Proportional Measurements:
Width= ____________ ÷ 4 = _________
H________
W
=
________
Width=_____
Height=_____
Measure your paper
using a centimeter ruler Height=_____
according to your
proportional measurements
to create your 4 x 4 grid overlay.
Width=_____

Proportionally Enlarged Measurements:
Height __________
Width ____________
Step 4: Draw a 4 x 4 grid using 16 “equal and precise” blocks proportional to the enlarged
measurements. (Prove your measurements are proportional)
Height = __________ ÷ 4 = _________
Proportional Measurements:
Width= ____________ ÷ 4 = _________

Step 4: Prove all measurements proportional.
 Find the ratio of heights and widths (Round to the nearest hundredth).

Enlarged Mini Blocks:

Step 5: Reconstruct drawing and color accordingly.
 Leave all extra border at the bottom of your picture.
 My border is at the bottom of my Height/Width. (Circle)
 Paper Height/Width (_____) – Enlarged Height/Width (_____) = ________
Lightly erase your grid marks on your final product before submitting the project! Higher scores
will reflect a near-perfect representation of the smaller comic/picture with accurate
proportional measurements. Colors, shading, and drawing should look identical!

All calculations and
proportions are
accurate
All grid lines can be
seen on comic strip
(grid lines on
enlarged picture
should be erased,
but should appear
faintly). All lines are
parallel and
measured correctly.
All proportions are
accurate on the
enlarged picture
The enlarged picture
is colored neatly in
the lines and colors
match original
