“Global warming is the increase in the average measured temperature of the Earth's nearsurface air and oceans since the mid-20th century, and its projected continuation.”
(Wikipedia.com) The world is split between global warming being caused by humans
(Anthropogenic) and it being a natural occurrence.
Many people argue that the earth, since its existence, has had global warming and that its natural occurrence cannot be stopped; as humans all we can do is slow down this occurrence. The earth is an expert in dealing with climate change; it knows how to take care of itself and has done so.
Global warming comes and goes as the earth naturally heats up and cools down. Thirty years ago we thought the biggest threat was global cooling and now the biggest threat is global warming. Throughout history there have been numerous cooling and warming periods and we are now going though one of those natural warming periods. An occurrence affected the world during the “Medieval Warm Period from about 950–1250 AD when Vikings settled into
Greenland because it used to be green and the perfect place to grow crops. It was followed by a cooler period in the North Atlantic called the Little Ice Age.” (Wikipedia.com) The earth has its own climate that changes naturally and in no way did humans cause global warming to take place.
“On December 11 th , 1997 the Kyoto Protocol was initiated by The UNFCCC (United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ) in an attempt to fight global warming. The
Kyoto Protocol is an international environmental treaty with the goal of achieving stabilization of GHG (Greenhouse Gas) concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would minimize dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system.” (Wikipedia.com) Professor Tim
Patterson, a Paleoclimatologist in Carleton’s Department of Earth Sciences, says the science used to establish the Kyoto Protocol is flawed. Patterson, who studies evidence in ocean and lake sediments to decipher how climate has varied over the past two million years, claims that the warming effect scientists observe are mostly natural. Patterson believes that the sun is a major natural contributing factor seeing as the sun is now brighter than it has been in 8,000 years…
Tad Murty, an expert in meteorology and physical oceanography, who is an adjunct professor in the Department of Earth Sciences, states his views more strongly. This is the biggest scientific hoax being perpetrated on humanity. There is no global warming due to human anthropogenic activities. The atmosphere hasn’t changed much in 280 million years, and there have always been cycles of warming and cooling. The Cretaceous period was the warmest on earth. You could have grown tomatoes at the North Pole.”(Magazine.Carleton.ca)
My opinion on Global Warming is on the natural side. The earth really has had its ups and downs with temperature and we are only raising the GHG in the atmosphere because of our emissions. After the industrial revolution, our inventions are only acting as catalysts in the global warming spectrum. We didn’t create the global warming epidemic by creating the automobile, factories, or anything that emits green house gases. Global warming and cooling has happened all throughout history. We can only do what we need to do to take care of our planet.
If we take care of our planet, it will take care of us.
