Senate Agenda: 12/1/14 5:30 p.m. Ed2N-2307 Call to Order: 6:32 pm President’s Announcements: Veronica Searles - Veronica is hoping to poll the students to find out a well rounded picture of what they want in terms of study spaces, relaxation spaces, etc. Senators should also speak with peers to see what types of space are in the highest demand. - They are continuing adding lighting around campus. There are now more lights around the library and pharmacy school. - There will be a shuttle service between the future light rail stop and the AMC campus. - Michael Jones has recently had a change in commitments and is stepping down from the position as VP of the Philanthropy committee. o Result: Senate voted to make Naveed Heydari the new vice president of philanthropy. Sarah Ha, Senator: There are more complaints about the microwaves in ED1 and they are currently down to one microwave. Cheryl will speak to facilities to expedite the process. OCSS Announcements: - Dora Safoh has relocated to the Downtown Campus. Isra will be the temporary staffer at the front desk of OCSS. - Cheryl Gibson will be retiring at the end of January. - There will be construction in the OCSS suite on the 3rd floor starting at the beginning of January. All services will still be available, see Isra at the front desk first to find what you need. Construction is set to last 3 months. Guest Speakers: Jerry Perry, Director of the Health Sciences Library - “Bearing the Bruise” – the author sent several boxes to the school and the library is donating them to Student Senators to enjoy. Jeff Parker (Vice Chancellor for Administration of Finance), Provost Nairn, Michael Del Guidice (Chief Planning Officer) – Campus Restructuring - The men came to speak to Senators about planning ideas and to address concerns about the Student Lounge in Building 500. Committee Sessions: Legislative Affairs- Tyler Luke/Heather Ponicsan - Speaking to legislators over winter break to request campus visits during the Spring semester. - Planning a panel discussion with health care professionals for the Spring semester. - Advocacy Day planning will start soon. Finance- Dylan Hartley - LaVerne Loechel of the Student Health Insurance Office is looking for students to sit on a committee and give input about the current plan. There will be a time commitment so interested students should have a flexible schedule. Diversity- Naveed Heydari - Continuing mentoring with North Middle School on Fridays. - December 15th from 4-6pm : there will be a craft day at Children’s Hospital. A signup sheet will be sent out to senators. - Paris elementary sports club did not occur due to scheduling difficulties. The committee is hoping to set up a sports club with the North Middle School. Philanthropy- Kirsten Anderson/Alexandra Sufit - Partnering with HAANDS for a canned food/coat drive this week and next week. - Hosting a toy drive for children’s hospital. Toys must be new in packaging. - Visit Coloradochiliopen.com to register for the golf tournament or chili cookoff. Student Life & Affairs- Michelle Nelson - Thank you to all the students who attended Hunger Games! - In the process of planning Field Day. - Going to hold a Denver Zoo lights trip in December, look for RSVP list sent out sometime in the near future. If you RSVP, you will need to pick up your tickets as soon as possible. - Working with the Philanthropy committee to plan a casino night. More information to come.
