BIOGRAPHY!
This project is designed for you to practice your non-fiction reading and research skills, to learn (or re-learn)
the art of outlining and writing a bibliography and to embody the person you have studied. You will have
the opportunity to "become” your person at your Tea Party; an educationally fascinating (but historically
impossible) meeting of great scientific and mathematical minds. Refreshments will be provided.
You will have ~10 class periods in science or humanities to work on research and writing for this project.
CLASS/HOME WORK DUE BY: MON, JAN 11:
1. Finish reading your book.
2. Have at least the following information clearly written on the appropriate page in your science journal:
a. Name of the person you are studying,
b. Where and when they were born and died (if applicable),
c. Their major achievement(s) and the year it (they) took place.
d. A bibliographical entry for the biography you are reading, plus any other source you have
used so far.
YOUR HOMEWORK DUE: SCIENCE PERIOD THURSDAY JAN. 14
Complete the first draft of your outline. Use the following categories with at least 3-4 subtopics in each:
I.
Life History – birth, death, family, where lived, etc
II.
Education/Influences – formal (schools, degrees granted) and informal (people and/or
experiences)
III.
Accomplishments/Discoveries – what did they do? Make sure you can explain these.
IV.
Legacy - why this person’s work has a lasting value, why important?
YOUR HOMEWORK DUE: END OF HUMANITIES PERIOD THURSDAY JAN. 14

**EXAMPLE OF OUTLINE and BIBLIOGRAPHY FORMATTING WILL BE PROVIDED **

Bring in a final (corrected) copy of your bibliography attached to the edited rough draft.
YOUR HOMEWORK DUE MONDAY, JAN. 25
Bring in a final (corrected) copy of your outline attached to the edited rough draft.
TEA PARTIES!
CLASSWORK: You will meet in a group on Tuesday, Jan 19 to begin work on your Tea Party plan and
script. Each group member needs to be able to share when/where they lived, their major accomplishments,
and find something in common with at lease 2 other members of your group. Each group is responsible for
writing a script template for their performance. Each individual is responsible for writing their personal
responses. The Advanced Theatre class will help with period costumes (ancient times – mid-1800’s).
You will be given ~8 periods in science or humanities class to work on this with your group.
TUES, JAN. 26
Be prepared to participate in your Tea Party. You must have a full costume and an appropriate prop. Please
be prepared to play the part of the person you studied. Be prepared to ask and answer questions with the
members of your group, describe your prop and to share all the information that you learned about your
person.
