Job Description
Salary
This post carries a TLR 2c allowance in addition to the postholder’s substantive salary.
Line of Responsibility
The Year Team Leader is directly responsible to a member of the Core Leadership Team.
Line Management

S/he will be responsible for the day to day management of all staff, including volunteers,
assigned to their year group, assuring standards of work and interactions are at all times
appropriate and of a high quality.

S/he will be responsible for the performance management of general LSA’s assigned to their
year groups.

S/he will assist the core leadership team as required with the performance management of
teachers in their year group.

Accountabilities

S/he will be accountable for the quality of teaching in their year group, ensuring that any
issues are shared promptly with a member of the core leadership team.

S/he will be accountable for standards in all subjects across their year group, working to
expectations and targets agreed with core leadership team.
Strategic Purpose

S/he shall lead and manage the school curriculum throughout the Year Team.

S/he shall ensure that learning within the Year Team is effectively monitored, supported,
evaluated and reviewed by reference to the school’s annual development plan objectives.

S/he shall ensure that behaviour of pupils within the Year Team is managed in accordance
with the School’s Behaviour and Pastoral Policies.

S/he shall ensure that high quality provision is maintained in the Year Team, working in liaison
with CLT and the Inclusion Leader to respond to pupil needs.
Leadership Role
 S/he shall lead teaching and support subject and support staff assigned to the Year Team and
contribute as required to the development of whole school initiatives.

S/he shall monitor the work of the team through observations, moderation and work scrutiny to
ensure consistently good quality.

S/he shall contribute to the wider work of the school in raising standards and promoting pride,
inspiration and excitement.
Operational Responsibilities

S/he shall ensure the effective co-ordination and monitoring of all courses/subjects within the
Year Team.

S/he shall ensure the effective operation of assessment, recording and reporting systems and
the achievement of pupil targets within the Year Team.

S/he shall contribute to curriculum development as required.

S/he shall contribute to the induction and professional development of support staff, teachers
and trainees assigned to the Year Team, acting a Teacher Tutor to NQTS as required.

S/he shall contribute to the positive and effective management of behaviour, within the Year
Team and beyond, as appropriate.

S/he shall contribute to the development and delivery of whole school initiatives as required.

S/he shall oversee all Educational Visits for the Year Team, following school procedure and
liaising with Educational Visits Co-ordinator and appropriate office personnel.
Conditions of Employment
The above responsibilities are subject to the general duties and responsibilities contained in the
written statement of conditions of employment (the Contract of Employment).
The postholder is required to support and encourage the school’s ethos and its objectives, policies
and procedures as agreed by the Governing Body.

S/he shall be subject to all relevant statutory requirements as detailed in the most recent School
Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
Particular attention is drawn to Section 66 ‘Teachers with leadership and management responsibilities
are entitled, as far as is reasonably practical, to a reasonable allocation of time within school sessions
to support the discharge of their responsibilities’.
The postholder may be required to perform any other reasonable tasks after consultation.
This job description allocates duties and responsibilities but does not direct the particular amount of
time to be spent on carrying them out and no part of it may be so constructed.
This job description is not necessarily a comprehensive definition of the post. It will be reviewed at
least once a year and it may be subject to modification at any time after consultation with the
postholder.
