School Visit Booking Form Braintree District Museum Manor Street Braintree Essex CM7 3HW Braintree Museums Risk Assessment and Terms and Conditions Information Children remain the responsibility of the school staff at all times while on Museum premises. Braintree District Council has a Child Protection Policy which is consistent with the Essex Safeguarding Children Board: ‘Southend, Essex, Thurrock Child Protection Procedures’ (2006) and the Government publications ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ (2006) and ‘What to do if you are worried a child is being abused’ (2006). The Museum is designed to be as safe as possible for ALL visitors with controlled access/exits, CCTV cameras and alarms. All Museum staff dealing with children are either CRB checked or have signed a Self-Disclosure form. Visiting schools are strongly advised to carry out a Risk Assessment prior to their visit but if this is not practical then the following points should be noted: The Museum is a public building with visitors in and out during the course of the day. The toilets are not for the exclusive use of visiting groups/schools and are used by members of the public, particularly those in the foyer of the Learning for Life Centre. The ‘playground’ area outside the building is not secure and is open to the pavement. Picnic tables are situated in the Museum grounds. Some areas of the Museum have particularly low lighting due to the nature of the artefacts and extra care should be taken in these places. Exhibitions and shop displays sometimes have fragile objects on show. At certain times, there may be delivery vehicles in the playground. The designated coach dropping off and collecting bays are on the opposite side of the road to the Museum. It will therefore be necessary to cross the children over the road. We cannot guarantee that the museum is a nut free environment If you have any questions relating to this document please feel free to call on 01376 325266.
