King Manor Museum seeks a full-time Education Director to oversee the museum’s busy calendar of school and adult group visits. About King Manor: King Manor Museum was the homestead of three generations of the King family from 1805 until 1896, beginning with anti-slavery Senator and Founding Father Rufus King. King Manor is a valuable historical, educational and cultural resource serving a largely minority and immigrant community of 650,000 in southeast Queens. Our goal is to make history relevant and immediate, and to foster an awareness of the roots of the present and a deeper appreciation of history as an on-going process. Responsibilities: -Develop, lead and assess school programs -Coordinate all aspects of school group bookings -Recruit teachers to visit King Manor with their classes via leading professional development sessions, outreach to area principals and schools, etc. -Coordinate and lead adult group tours -Track program statistics and assist Executive Director with educational materials for grants -Recruit, train and schedule docents and volunteers -Order, manage, and maintain all school program supplies -Manage museum gift shop Hours: 9:00-5:00, Monday – Friday. Three Saturdays per year to assist with seasonal festivals in addition to one Sunday per month. Start date January 11, 2016. Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, Material Culture, or a related field -5 years museum education experience, or 3 years plus a master’s degree in a related field -Strong communication skills, both written and spoken -Good organizational and time management skills -Flexibility and sense of humor -Volunteer management experience a plus -Fluency in Spanish a plus To apply: Send cover letter and resume to nwilliams@kingmanor.org.
