Michael Chaby Nikki Suspic Crystina Campbell Jaquan Johnson Communication Differences Between Gender and Parents Our group decided to do our project on communication differences between gender and parents. We picked communication between genders because we knew that males and females do not talk the same. The idea of asking them how they speak to their parents came about because we wanted to know the effect it would have on a male and female. We decided the way to get peoples opinions and a thought about the topic is by doing a survey. On the survey that we made we ask for your sex and there was eight question to answer. Under the question was each parent, both, and neither you were ask to circle one. We handed out thirty-two survey to females and thirty to males. After giving out the survey we collected them back so that we could collect the data and see what our results would be which is later displayed in the paper. We began by collecting our data with a survey that was eight questions long and asked a variety of different questions regarding communication relationships between kids and their parents. After we collected our data we began by looking at the surveys and disregarding any of the surveys where participants forgot to circle their gender. Once we sorted through those, we took all of the answers that were given to us and tallied up each answer that was given. We sorted through each answer and put them together in a chart that gave us the results of each answer from that participants that were asked. As a whole, we felt that the survey was the most efficient way to collect our data and analyze our results. After conducting the survey we received results that were unlike what we thought we would get. When asked which parent they turn to for advice most women said their moms, while guys tended to ask their fathers more. When asked which parent they were most likely to curse in front of both males and females said their mothers more then their fathers, which was unexpected. When asked which parent they tell first when they do something wrong, both females and males put their mother over their fathers. Both females and males said their mothers were more understanding then their fathers. When asked which parent they ask for money females mostly said their moms where as males it was even between their moms and dads. Both male and females said they have the same amount of respect for both parents. Females were more prone to talking to their moms about relationship problems where as males said they rarely talk to either parent about relationship problems. Some of the surveys ended up being what we expected while other caught us all off guard and were quite shocking. Even though kids seemed to favorite a certain parent in their surveys, parents should always remember, “that your child loves both of you even if he or she does play favorites every now and then.” Just because a child goes to one parent for anything doesn’t mean there is a lack of love in a family. Before doing this survey about asking and finding out which parent people go to for help, advice, money etc. We thought that from a male’s perspective that they would go to their fathers. Then for the females that they would go to their mothers. We thought that because in those situations they could help out the most usually when there the same sex. We have found out a lot of things after the survey was taken and we added up the result. After adding up all the results from the survey it came out that males and females would go to their mother before their fathers. In the end you can see that no matter what gender that mothers are the more understanding, for their children to talk, or even for advice etc. In conclusion, our results show that most females and males lean towards the mother when asked the eight questions. Things about our project we would change would be the age. We only ask college students because that what we had the most access to. Having a wider range of age would help us to see if there was a correlation between age and not just sex. Also location is another thing that we would change. Most of the people asked were located in Bloomsburg, asking someone from the south these questions would have a different impact on our results. We would also add the survey the question of who do you live with. We think that asking this question could have helped us with our results. If you live with your mother you may respect her mother same goes for father. Doing the research project with the survey and eight questions gave us a good idea of how gender effects communication with parents. Works Cited Zagata, Darlene.
