DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 8900 PAY GRADE: 022 CLASS TITLE: QUALITY ASSURANCE AND TRAINING SPECIALIST ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is work conducting sanitation and safety field training, conducting inspections of public lodging and public food service establishments to evaluate inspectors' inspection results and providing field oversight for the standardization and quality assurance program. Conducts performance inspections of public lodging and public food service establishments to evaluate inspection results of Sanitation and Safety Inspection Specialists. Conducts sanitation and safety field training of Sanitation and Safety Inspection Specialists to ensure conformity and compliance with approved inspection techniques. Performs initial training of new Sanitation and Safety Inspection Specialists regarding policies and procedures, the automated inspection system and standardization through Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Performs quality assurance evaluations for all Sanitation and Safety Inspection Specialists with the division as well as all employees performing inspections under contract with the division. Analyzes statistical information regarding inspections and enforcement procedures for the purpose of quality assurance. Recertifies all Sanitation and Safety Inspection Specialists through the standardization program every three years or as often as FDA deems appropriate. Assists evaluation officers in coordinating and conducting monthly, quarterly and annual training seminars. Assists the hospitality education program staff with education seminars and workshops for licensees and industry members. Operates and maintains audio/visual and other equipment utilized in training. Performs related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 8900-QUALITY ASSURANCE AND TRAINING SPECIALIST-CS (Note: The knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) identified in this class specification represent those needed to perform the duties of this class. Additional knowledge, skills and abilities may be applicable for individual positions in the employing agency.) Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communications. Ability to conduct the quality assurance and training programs on the sanitation and safety requirements of public lodging and public food service establishments. Ability to apply the principles, methods and techniques of training or instruction. Ability to conduct staff performance evaluations for the FDA standardization program, fire safety certification and quality assurance program. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to evaluate and analyze training and quality assurance data. Ability to work independently. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to training and quality assurance functions. Ability to standardize employee performance according to FDA standards for sanitation and safety inspections. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the physical or natural sciences, environmental health, sanitary science, public health, engineering, or hotel or restaurant management and two years of professional environmental health, food safety or food establishment, hotel or restaurant management experience; or A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of professional environmental health, food safety or food establishment, hotel or restaurant management experience; or A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the educational areas described above and one year of professional environmental health, food safety or food establishment, hotel or restaurant management experience; or Field or laboratory experience in environmental or public health, a physical or natural science, engineering or experience in food establishment, hotel or restaurant management or food safety, hotel or restaurant inspection can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
