Intelligent Quantum uses nothing but environmentally-compatible materials such as sheets of mica
and iron oxide.
Moreover the installation cost is more or less negligible, and the investment costs are surprisingly
low. "This means that modern electric storage heating is outstandingly suitable for replacing existing
obsolete night storage heater systems" explains Jochen Engelke: "There are no problems
connecting to the existing heating system. The entire available infrastructure can simply be reused."
Easy to operate, really smart controls
The three product lines mean there is a radiator to suit every home. A quick visit by an electrician is
all it takes: unpack, plug in, switch on – "plug & heat" as you might say. The visual design is
attractive and looks good, blending unobtrusively into the background. There are five sizes
available, two colours (black and white), and a free choice of surfaces (glass or metal). The three
integral heater elements can be switched individually in order to store sufficient energy depending
on the PV yield and required output, and provide heating to the exact temperature required. The
well-designed concept includes controls which offer pre-set scenarios such as programs for working
days, for weekends and holidays, thus saving no end of fuss and bother. Of course as you would
expect further individual scenarios can be created, allowing the heating output to be regulated
continuously. Irrespective of this, the storage heaters are also "Smart Grid ready" for the future
electricity market: That means the IQ can automatically detect when solar power is available from
your own photovoltaic array – or when the best conditions exist to take power from the mains.

Potential savings by smart energy management: Dimplex Smart Eco System
More and more site managers and renovators are recognising the value of smart networking of
domestic technology to enable more efficient use of energy. The biggest potential savings can be
found by linking up with the photovoltaic array or making use of future electric tariffs where the price
varies with the load – and in conjunction with an energy management system such as the Smart
Eco System (S.E.S). The S.E.S. provides smart networking of domestic technology and determines
the priorities depending on the current demands and ambient conditions. In this way it controls the
