Reports:
a)Director’s Report: Greta explained that Gordon Bernell will have to down size to 300 students.
This is partly due to the re-classification at MDC. Kimberlee also included that the quality of our program is
highly looked at and what is the best benefit for the school. Greta will be retiring in December instead of June.
Jolene Jaramillo will meet with Greta to look at budget and get an actual number for the budget. Ron
continues to work on a Life Skills curriculum so teachers can continue teaching it in the classrooms. Greta
continued stating that the Legislative Finance Committee has been discussing the enrollment age cap and may
become more serious in the 2015 session. This could also impact Gordon Bernell. There is one teacher that
failed the background check the second time around and is under investigation and still pending.
b)Transitional Seminar: Kimberlee explained that the school started a new course for Roma
campus which is based on Skip Downing’s On Course book as its main text. This course was an outcome of last
year’s professional development study groups and will be the topic of a presentation at this year’s NM Charter
School Coalition conference. Transitional Seminar is designed with the idea that the teachers are linked with
students and aide them with a transition into their next step plans. One concept is Habits of Mind and is used
every day. A few examples are: Humor, gathering date through senses, responsible risk taking, questioning,
striving for accuracy with the highest level a student could reach is Thinking about Thinking, having the
students think first about their thoughts and outcomes.
