Language Analysis
Make somebody/something + adjective
Make somebody/something + adjective means to cause somebody/something to be or become
something. We generally use feel before sick, but you can use feel before the other adjectives too, for
example: feel afraid, feel thirsty.
What makes you afraid?
Spiders make me afraid.
Nothing makes me afraid!
The dark makes everything very quiet.
What makes you feel sick?
Travelling by car makes me feel sick.
Too + adjectives (or adverb)
We use too + adjective to say that it is excessive, more than necessary, more than usual. It is usually
connected with negative consequences.
E.g. If you say that it is very cold it means it is not warm. If you say: It is too cold it means it is difficult to
be there. It is often followed by an infinitive:
It is too late to stop.
He is too young to watch the film.
She is too tired to do her homework.
Our last homework was too difficult and we could not do it.
