Paediatric BASIC Course
Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive

This is a foundation course in PICU clinical management. It is the sister-course to the Adultfocused BASIC and it is similar to the paediatric Fundamentals course.
This course is aimed at:




Junior paediatric intensive care doctors – how to survive your first few months in PICU
Trainees in paediatrics , emergency medicine or anaesthesia
Non-PICU consultants delivering emergency care to children
Senior PICU nurses & ANP’s
Course Fee: £450 doctors and £325 nurses
(Includes course textbook, morning tea, lunch & afternoon tea)
2-day, very interactive course with simulation sessions, skill
stations, small group tutorials and lectures taught by an
international faculty of paediatric intensive care specialists.
Emphasis on the practical approach to management of critically ill
children in emergencies
Simulation, small group tutorials & lectures include:











Airway Management & video- laryngoscopy introduction
Vascular access & the use of ultrasound
Mechanical Ventilation x3 – strategies & troubleshooting
Monitoring
Analgesia & sedation
Trauma & resuscitation
Acute respiratory failure
Sepsis and septic shock
Congenital heart disease
Acute neurological injuries
Fluid management and acute kidney injury
