Day to Day Details:
Inoculate animals against various diseases such as rabies and distemper. Educate the public
about diseases that are spread from animals to humans. Lay out surgical equipment and passed
instruments and materials to veterinarian during surgical procedures. Operate diagnostic equipment
such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment. Vaccinated animals and administered medications
orally and intravenously. Fill medications to sick and injured animals to resolve health problems and
ease pain. Collect tissue, feces, blood and urine samples for examination and analysis. Administer
medicine to animals and monitored health following treatment. Assist customers by phone, including
scheduling appointments and treatments. Administered anesthetics before surgery and monitored
effects prior to surgery. Performed venipuncture’s and dressed animals’ wounds. Checked animals’
temperature, heart rate and lung sounds. Monitor animals undergoing treatment for changes and signs
of improvement. Restrained and managed scared and active animals Monitored animals recovering
from surgery and notified veterinarian of any changes.
Volunteer Hours:
Currently have a position at the Dallas Zoo in the Base Camp. I am there 4 hours every
Wednesday afternoon. I get to educate the visitors in the daily life of the elephants and get to
discuss different skulls of the animals that are in the Serengeti part of the Zoo.
