English 080 Course Overview
English 080 is a two-unit course designed to support students taking developmental English courses by
exploring a menu of Student Success Activities designed to strengthen your academic skills and introduce
you to important student success resources at North Seattle College to ensure your success as you begin
your college career.
With each Student Success Activity you complete, you will accrue Student Success Points – like in a
video game – and the amount of points you earn will determine your grade.
Every hour of work equals 10 points and your goal is to achieve 200 points by the end of the quarter for a
4.0.

Students taking Eng. 95/96 or Eng. 97/98 may earn points by participating in our tutor navigator
program.
Tutor Navigators spend time in your class, get to know your instructor and assignments, and then
organize study groups for your classes in the Student Learning Center.
Tutor Navigators can also help answer any questions you may have about your English class or other
resources at NSC.
Other Class Requirements




You must have accrued 100 points by the 5th week of the quarter to be eligible for a 4.0
Tutoring sessions that take place after the beginning of finals week begins do not count toward
Eng. 080
You do not earn points for just typing your paper for class or doing homework
You must either meet with a Page One Coordinator for check-ins at the beginning and end of the
quarter. You can see either the Coordinator or Tutor Navigator for your mid-quarter check-in.
Documentation – Eng. 080 Activity Log
At the beginning of the quarter, you will be given a folder containing an Activity Log to record your tutoring
sessions and other Eng. 080 related activities. It is your responsibility to make sure your activities are
properly recorded. You will always keep the folder in the Page One Writing Center to make sure it does
not get lost.
Clocking In on the Time Keeper
The Time Keeper keeps track of the time you spend in the Page One Writing Center – so it is important
to clock in and out because this is an additional way we can record your Student Success Activities.
Our friendly greeters will help you create an account on the Time Keeper.
ADA Statement
Any student with a documented disability seeking academic adjustments or accommodations is
requested to speak with a Page One coordinator during the first two weeks of class. All discussions will
remain as confidential as possible. Students with disabilities will need to contact Disability Services in
the CC Building.
