Dutch Minister and Mayor
showcase water and urban
expertise at SIWW and WCS
Dutch innovations aim to inspire Singapore
The Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment paves the way to showcase
innovative water management systems and ground-breaking water technology at the Singapore
International Water Week and creative solutions for sustainable cities at the World City Summit.
Minister Schultz van Haegen will speak at the opening plenary on the future of international water
management, such as the need for sustainable development goals in water, and the challenges facing
fast-growing Asian delta cities. The Minister will be in Singapore on 1 and 2 June.
Mayor Aboutaleb of Europe’s largest port city Rotterdam will speak at the Mayor’s Forum on 1
June on the creation of an urban ‘eco-system’. Rotterdam’s economic policy stresses the application
of innovative technologies as key to economic and sustainable growth. The emphasis is on innovative
concepts, which positively impact the health of the city and which Rotterdam is using to stimulate the
transition to a circular economy: a new economic model that ‘ownership’ and adding value
reconsiders. The Mayor will be in Singapore from 31 May until 5 June.
Creative solutions already implemented in Rotterdam show opportunities for Singapore, such as
building on water (including dairy farms!), diverting excess rain into parking garages and specific
water squares which during dry times double as playgrounds, and renovating industrial heritage sites.
In addition to these two high profile Dutch speakers, there is a host of Dutch speakers and companies
at the Singapore International Water Week, including a dedicated Holland Pavilion and a specialized
team on cyber security. Please find attached a full list of companies and speakers.
The Dutch business community will present itself at the network reception on June 3, where Mayor
Aboutaleb and Mr Khoo Teng Chye of the Centre for Liveable Cities will be the guests of honour.
During this reception several events will take place:
-
The official opening of the Witteveen+Bos Singapore office
The launch of the Netherlands Singapore Water Challenge, “ Urban Water Rebels”
The signing of a collaboration agreement (CAP) by PUB and Watershare (KWR Water Recycle
Institute).
If you would like to attend this network reception, or are interested in any of the speakers, please
