Mission Statement
The goal of the Blackman High School Tennis Program is to have a program that produces
quality players, along with trustworthy and disciplined young men and women, who understand
that tennis is both an individual and team sport and that everything we do reflects on our team,
the individuals, and the school.
Program Goals
Provide each player with the opportunity to lean, develop, and improve their tennis skills.
Provide each player with an atmosphere that encourages mental, social, and emotional maturity.
Player Expectations
As a member of the Blackman High School Tennis Program you are expected to:








Show up on time!
Work hard and strive to become better everyday
Maintain a positive attitude.
Respect your coaches, teammates, opposing teams, and officials.
Encourage your teammates.
Discuss questions or concerns with your coach in a positive and mature manner.
Represent the program appropriately at school, on the court, and in the community.
Remember you priorities as a student athlete. Grades and behavior first and athletics
second.
Tennis Program Communication Process
Playing time, Player ranking, and team strategy will not be discussed before, during, or after the
season with parents. If a player has a concern, they will need to speak directly to the coaching
staff in a mature manner.
The head coach has an open door policy with all parents concerning all other issues. Please
contact the head coach to set up an appointment.
Tennis Team rules and policies
Behavior
The Blackman High School coaching staff will not tolerate misbehaving in and out of the
classroom and community. Athletes are representatives of the Blackman high School Tennis
Program and should represent themselves and the school in an appropriate manner at all times.


ISS
o 1st offense: 2 match suspension
o 2nd Offense: Dismissal from the team
OSS
o 1st Offense: Dismissal from the team
All other behavior issues that are brought to the attention of the coaching
staff will be dealt with appropriately.
Grades
Each member of the Blackman High School Tennis Team is a Student First and an
Athlete Second.
 Progress report:
o F= 1 match suspension
 Report cards
o 1 F= 2 match suspension
o 2 F = Dismissal from the team
All other academic issues that are brought to the attention of the coaching staff will
be dealt with appropriately.
Missed Practices:
Practice is not optional – You can’t learn or improve when you are not
present.
If a player is going to miss practice, please notify the coaching staff in
advance. Acceptable reasons for missing practice are sickness, death in the
family, injury, family crisis, or discretion of the head coach.
Missed Matches:
If a player is going to miss a match, please notify the coaching staff in
advance. Acceptable reasons for missing practice are sickness, death in the
family, injury, family crisis, or discretion of the head coach.
Tardy to Practice:
It is important to be on time to practice. Unexcused tardy to practice could
affect your ranking and playing time.
Appropriate Dress Attire for Practice and Matches:
Practice Gear:
 Practice shorts, pants, shirt, and shoes
Match Gear:
 Home matches: Business casual attire to school
 Away Matches: Travel/Warm up suit
Fundraising:
If we plan a fundraiser, all players are expected to participate in that
endeavor during the season.

Parents:
As a parent of a Blackman High School Tennis Program, you have made a
commitment to your child and the program. With this commitment some
these responsibilities:
 To encourage, cheer, and support team members and coaching staff.
 To instruct you child within the confines of our program and
philosophy.
 To not shout personal instructions to players or coaches during
practices or matches.
 To help fundraise when necessary
 To have you child to all practices and matches on time
 To pick your child up from all practices and matches on time
 Transportation:
o It is a violation of Rutherford County Policy for a coach to
transport you child to and from school events. You will need to
arrange transportation for you child. This will not be the
responsibility of the coaching staff.
o For home and in county matches, players are allowed to drive
themselves only to any match or practice.
o For all out of county matches, players must ride with a parent.
Players may ride with other parents if needed with a parent note
given to the coaching staff ahead of time.
