Educational Objectives: At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
Overdose Prevention with Education and Naloxone: The Essential Role of the Pharmacist (ACPE # -P/T): Summarize the evidence-base and rational for
opioid overdose prevention education and the use of naloxone in the community; Describe the regulations, statutes, and models relevant to prescribing and
dispensing naloxone; Discuss the role of the pharmacist in the identification of patients at risk for opioid overdose, and the education of patients and
caregivers in overdose risk reduction, recognition, and response; Identify opportunities to partner with health departments, boards of pharmacy and
medicine, health professional training programs, substance abuse treatment programs, and others to expand access to naloxone via pharmacists.
Advances in HIV Therapy that Every Pharmacist Should Know (ACPE #P/T): Summarize current national guidelines for treatment of HIV-1, including
time to initiation of antiretroviral (ARV) therapy; Describe ARV drugs approved since 2014 and their place in treatment; Outline the potential role of
tenofovir alafenamide fumarate and its coformulations; Identify and describe several new ARV drugs and formulations currently in development.
An Update on the Treatment of Hepatitis C Virus (ACPE # -P/T): Discuss the pathophysiology and diagnosis of Hepatitis C virus; Identify HCV patients
that are appropriate for treatment; Choose an appropriate medication regimen and duration of treatment for patients with Hepatitis C virus; Provide
education, including; potential side effects and drug interactions, that are commonly encountered during Hepatitis C virus treatment.
Selected Updates in Pharmacy Law: Corresponding Responsibility, DEA Regulations and Medication Errors (ACPE # -P/T 1): Review the federal
Controlled Substance Act; Assess the pharmacist's corresponding responsibility for controlled substance prescriptions; Describe the record keeping
requirements under the federal Controlled Substance Act; Utilize strategies to reduce medication errors for improvement of patient health and pharmacy
compliance.
