We continue to work out of the same site on
Edward Street and all contact numbers are the
same.
Please make all future cheques payable to
'Midshire Farm and Equine'.
Suzanne Naughton has recently graduated from
Dublin and started with the practice at the beginning
of October. Suzanne is working as a mixed vet with
an equine bias but will be seen on many a farm with
her warm Irish smile and sense of humour.
Rachel Stockwell is an experienced mixed vet from
New Zealand who will be starting with us this month.
Rachel has just finished a period of travelling and will
be carrying out all aspects of mixed veterinary work.
Lumeno Rozza and Fabrizio Vitale are both Italian vets
and will be carrying out most of the TB testing from
now on. They do not carry out clinical farm work so
please contact the practice in advance if you have
clinical jobs that need doing at your TB test.
Schmallenberg Virus Update
Schmallenberg,SBV, has been confirmed on some of our farms within the last couple of months. The virus has
mainly been confirmed in cattle rather than sheep, having had dead deformed calves born, abortions, or
causing a period of milk drop within the dairy herds.
As we are in November and the cold weather is increasing, there should be a decline in the acute outbreaks of
the disease due to the midge season ending. However we will still likely see abortions or the birth of deformed
calves and lambs over the winter period due to SBV.
Free SBV testing has now been stopped within Warwickshire and Leicestershire as the areas are known to have
been exposed to the disease. If you suspect a case of SBV on your farm please contact the surgery to let us
know, and we can discuss testing further.
Biobest are offering SBV bulk milk testing for the dairy herds to indicate whether the herd has been exposed to
the virus this summer. This will cost £15 per sample. As a practice we would like to test as many dairy farms as
possible to enable us to know who has been exposed or not this year.
A vaccine is being currently worked on.
